Carl was angry. He had to be. Maybe disappointed, maybe both.
He hadn't spoken to you since you told him, and you almost started to regret it. But it had to come out sometime, it would be impossible to hide forever.
He was avoiding you; it was obvious. But every time he "forgot" to knock on your door to take you on his daily stroll with Judith, or when he stopped hanging out with you, you became even more angrier with him. It wasn't just your fault, the situation was a two-way street.
You were once--technically still are--boyfriend and girlfriend, but you took his behavior as a sign that you weren't. Not anymore. His reaction broke your heart. It's not like you expected him to love it when he first heard it, but you didn't expect him to full out ignore you.
It seemed as if, to you, he was only thinking about himself. No thought of what the situation might mean to you as well.
You didn't intend to get pregnant. Both of you were so careful that it was almost a surprise when the test was positive.
You sat on your couch in your house in Alexandria, curled up into a ball. Thinking. Regretting.
How would you take care of it in this world? You knew Judith was surviving very well, but Rick took care of her. Not some teenagers who grew up too quickly. You acted like adults, but there was no manual that came with this baby. Rick could help, but...
Rick. Shit. He still didn't know his son got you pregnant, and you wondered how he'll take it. He knew your relationship with Carl was serious, but you doubted he was prepared to hear this.
As your mind wandered, you turned around on the couch, closing your eyes and facing the backrest. You still vividly remembered the time you told him, still remembered how confused you felt.
--
The words had already come out, and there was no turning around now. He had the right to know, anyways. You stood in your kitchen, anxiously waiting for his reaction. But there was only silence.
Carl looked completely serious, and only a bit intimidating because of the way his wide eye bored into yours.
"Are you sure?" He had asked.
Your pursed your lips at him, crossing your arms. "I think I would know. The thing said positive."
He turned away from you, creating a silence that gained intensity by the second. You almost thought you should say something, but you didn't know what. You were both seventeen, what were you supposed to say? "It'll be alright"? Most likely, you assumed, it won't be. Not in this world. Not anymore.
Your mouth felt dry, the words you were supposed to say sucking up all the moisture, waiting to be spoken. But you didn't say them. You didn't want to tell him that it'd be dangerous, or that nobody in Alexandria properly knew how to deliver a baby. He knew these things already.
"You'd be a great father." you went with instead, walking around the granite table that separated you from him. You reached to touch his shoulder for comfort. For showing that you'll both be in this together. But before your fingertips touched the fabric of his shirt, he whipped around.
"Y/N, we're seventeen! The world has died, and we're having a baby?" he shouted asking you rhetorically. You didn't know what to say, but you were surprised about his outburst. A little angry.
"Do you think I meant for this to happen?" you kept your voice quiet as you glared into his eye, telling him to be quiet. You didn't even know where Rick was, where Michonne was, or if anyone could hear you.
