Another group, another party.
It was a big group this time with varying ages. The last time there was a party was when you, Carl, and the group first came to Alexandria. There hasn't been as many incoming people yet.
About a year passed since your arrival to the camp, but it's only been four months since the start of your relationship with Carl. It was still new to the both of you considering everything was a first. It was hard in the beginning to deal with your feelings, since neither of you knew what to do, but you figured the both of you were in a really nice spot now.
Although, you haven't been spending much time with him recently due to your appointment for the welcoming party. It was big and, on such short notice, they needed people to organize it. Fast. You stood up to help along with one other person your age--Jack. He was one of the new ones from the group that wanted to help out.
"It's looking good." you inspected the house the party was going to be in. It was only a couple hours past noon and the event started at six, but the sooner things would get done, the better.
"Yeah, it is," Jack agreed, sitting down at one of the chairs in the kitchen. He ran a hand through his dark hair and gazed around. You sat next to him, taking out one of the notes Carl left you that morning from your pocket.
'See you later. X' it wrote. You frowned at it. He's been writing you notes in the morning, but only recently since it was only a couple weeks ago that the two of you started sharing a room. He leaves to work with his dad before you get up and since you've started working on the party, you get back later than he does. He's usually asleep when you get back. Though when he does see you, you're usually busy with not much time to talk.
"That's all he said this time?" Jack asked. You glanced at him, not realizing he saw what it said, though it wasn't really a secret. He knew about the relationship between you and Carl and usually commented on how good of a guy he was.
"Yeah." you sighed. "We haven't been seeing much of one another lately. I guess there just isn't much to say." your explanation was more for you rather than him. To be honest, you felt kind of distant from him. In the times that you did talk, there wasn't much room for a good conversation, mostly just a few short words and a quick kiss. You weren't too worried, though. After tonight you would be seeing him much more.
"Understandable," he commented. "You ready for some lunch? I'm starving." he got up from his seat and made his way to the pantry. It was unusually stocked up due to the party, and he passed you a granola bar, taking one for himself as well.
"To the party," he held out his snack. You smiled, bumping yours against his before repeating,"To the party."
--
Your hair was wavy from the braids you put in after your shower, and you had put on whatever makeup you had in your bathroom from runs that you went on sometimes with Carl. You dressed in a casual black dress with flats that were only a tad too small. You waited for Carl as long as you could at the house until you eventually had to make your way to the party alone.
Of course, you had to be one of the first people there, so you weren't that disappointed when he didn't come back in time. He'd be there eventually.
An hour passed by since the party began; talking to other people, hanging around Jack, and continuously glancing to the door in case Carl were to walk through stretched the hour into what felt like a life time before he arrived.
You excused yourself quickly from Jack and Mildred, one of the older ladies in Alexandria, and tried to briskly maneuver through the crowd of people until you reached the front door.
