Chapter 48

Liam's POV

I wake up and my head is pounding, my stomach is in pain as well as my shoulder and I groan. I manage to get to my feet and I suck in a breath. The cool air stings my open wounds and I groan again, louder this time. I bow my head and trudge further through. I reach the treeline by the highway and sirens wail in the distance and I look up. A bunch of police vehicles are parked on the highway. A trail of Emma is through here. I duck back and watch them. They set a dog loose and it starts sniffing around and then it spots me. My eyes widen and I turn and start to run away but I trip and fall, screaming and wincing and the dog is over me, barking at me and growling. "What did you find boy?" A woman's voice calls and then she starts calling for more officers, nearing me. I am turned onto my back and I groan.
"Fuck!" I shout and I am met by warm brown eyes.
"We have a live one! Call an ambulance to meet us at the station!" She barks orders, putting the dog on a leash and pulling him back. "We will get you to safety." She mutters and more officers surround her.
"An ambulance is on it's way." A man says and then I am being lifted up and I shout.
They take me to the car and lay me in the back seat and I close my eyes, wincing. I feel the car jolt as we speed off, the sirens wailing and I take deep breaths. "We will get you there!" The woman cop calls and I groan.

Emma's POV

I hear the cops talking inside, I hug the blanket and jacket tighter around me and wipe my eyes. I clutch my stomach and wipe my eyes, looking inside, shivering. They bring me back inside and I watch them. "Emma?" One says and I look up at the man.
"Yes." I say and they share a look.
"Emma Stewart?" The other asks and I nod.
"That's me." I say, blinking rapidly. We are interrupted by sirens wailing outside and they start mumbling, hurrying past me and outside. I follow in suit, unaware of what is going on and I stand in the back, peeking out past them. What is going on?
