The moment the words rolled out of your tongue, Taehyung sat up straight, startling you. His eyes were as wide as saucers, looking at you as though you had committed a sin. You placed the spoon that you held in between your fingers, back into to the bowl.
'M-Min Ji?' He stuttered, confusing you for a brief moment, before you nodded your head.
'My friend? Yeah, Min Ji. Why, Taehyung, do you know someone with that name?' You spoke cautiously.
You didn't know you had hit the bulls eye. How was he supposed to explain himself? He racked at his brain, harder than he ever did, a drop of sweat trickling down his forehead in the process. He knew he had to tell you the truth - you don't deserve to be lied to. But, he also knew that he would have the narrate the whole tale, which would seem desperately made-up to a human. Yet, he made a decision - which he wished, was not hasty.
'Taehyung-'
'Yes, actually.' He abruptly interrupted you, looking away. He pulled at his collar a little with two fingers before gulping down. He agreed you were beautiful and mesmerizing, but it did not - not even in the slightest - look like you would have any knowledge associated with the term.
'Oh..' He heard you say, making him look back at you. You held the slightest hint of disappointment in your face, and he was confused as to why you did, before he understood what you might have been thinking. He wanted to tell you that it wasn't what you were thinking: that he was not having anybody special to him other than you at the moment.
But he didn't, he simply let you think and took a little time for himself, as he considered and reconsidered his decision to tell you the tale of his past life. Finally deciding that you weren't ready for such a massive blow of 'guess-what-I'm-a-fallen-angel', he modified it.
'She's no more.' Taehyung finally said, breaking the almost awkward silence that was beginning to set in.
Your head whipped up in an instant, with wide eyes, 'Oh- I'm so sorry, Taehyung. I didn't mean to-'
'No, Y/N, please, don't be.' He said, and you instantly closed your mouth. He looked at you and gave you a small smile, but somehow, his eyes held woe. It looked like as though the fear of this back-story being revealed to you, had been vanquishing him the entire time. You could feel that he had not spoken of it, and kept it to himself the entire time since.
'She used to be someone I cherished a lot, you see? I loved her so much, and she loved me the same. But one day, one hour, one second, took everything away. She was killed. I tried calling her-' He stopped to chuckle bitterly, '-God help me, I was so fucking desperate. I shook her so hard you would've thought her neck broke. But obviously, nothing brought her back. Depression settled in, and I knew nothing happening outside my own world. It bothered me so much and finally I decided to do something about it. And I did.' He stopped and gave you his charming little smile, but what gave it off was that one traitorous tear that slipped out of his eye.
'What did you do?' You whispered, your hand automatically reaching for his on the table. He welcomed your gesture and interlocked your fingers. His gaze shifted to your interlocked hands, gave a smile and said, 'You'll know when time wants you to, Y/N. Until then, just know that I deeply regretted doing what I had done.' You looked down, sadness wetting your eyes, but you didn't want him to see you.
'But now-' He said again, making you look up immediately, and he noticed the tears glistening in your eyes, '-you're making me feel different, Y/N. The regret is washing away, and it's being replaced. I don't know if to be deeply gratified or worried. But, let's just hope for the best,' he whispered the end, making your face contort. You bit your lip to prevent a sob from escaping.
