Mackenzie turned until her legs ached, leaped until she felt they would fall off, and stretched until she was almost certain she was turning into a rubber band.
It was day three of Mackenzie's last week in Pittsburgh, at the ALDC. Their last few days had been filled with lots goodbyes, and lots of dancing.
The competition was on Saturday, and, it was Wednesday. Maddie had confidently told Abby, on the behalf of herself and Mackenzie (who didn't wholeheartedly feel sure about it), that the two girls were ready to pull out their first place wins, and the two more days to practise would only make their solos better than ever.
Anyway, Mackenzie couldn't help but feel bored. Her mom had already sent most of Mackenzie's stuff to their new LA home, and that meant their house was empty, the pool had been covered over, and Mackenzie's friends still had normal school, while she did only a couple of hours at home with their tutor.
Maddie went to a lot of parties, and it was one eventful evening, when Maddie and Mackenzie got off dance got off early, at 5.30 pm, that Mackenzie went to one as well.
It was on that very Wednesday. The Ziegler's hit the studio early, and worked on their solos and duet, then worked with the other girls when they came. Mackenzie and her sister were then excused from dance.
Maddie was texting all her friends, until a girl called Avery came over. Avery had bottle-blond hair, baby blue eyes, and was short and petite, just like Maddie. Maddie and Avery were best friends, and they were both 13, almost 14.
Avery marched into the Ziegler's house, then rushed up the stairs with Maddie, them both giggling, because their moms, had both allowed the girls to sleepover at their friend Freya's house- where, Mackenzie overheard, there was going to be a raging party.
It was while Maddie and Avery got themselves ready that Mackenzie scored an invite.
Mackenzie knocked on her sister's door and Avery answered, smiling a very pretty smile at Mackenzie.
"Hey, Kenz. Haven't seen you in ages, doll!"
Mackenzie loved Avery; she'd always included her. Plus, she loved Avery's way of calling her 'doll'.
"Hey, Avery. Can I come in?"
Avery nodded and Mackenzie took a running jump onto her sisters massive bed.
Maddie was preening in the mirror, looking incredibly pretty.
"How do I look Kenz?" She asked, adding a touch of bronzer to her face.
Kenz admired both girls. They looked beautiful, even if they looked about 15 or 16 instead of 14.
"Gorgeous. Both of you."
She spoke dreamily, and the older girls looked upon her fondly.
They exchanged looks and immediately, the two knew what to do with Mackenzie.
"You should come with us." Maddie had blurted. Avery nodded along, smiling. This was the very last thing Mackenzie had expected from the girls, and her jaw literally dropped.
"Really?"
"Really." Avery giggled. "Now let's get some makeup on you!"
Avery and Maddie spilled the other dresses on the floor and debated between themselves which one to put on Mackenzie.
It ended up being a short black number with a high neckline. Maddie and Avery wanted Mackenzie to look older, and that they did.
Maddie pulled out a very padded bra that she said was too small, and made Mackenzie wear it. Avery did her makeup and the dress it's self made her feel like a model.
