CHAPTER NINE
REFLECTION
The boat moved evenly through the water, Jack steered the boat from the front, whilst keeping a predominate amount of attention on Nora.
The forest was thicker around the edge of the lake. It teemed with life, bird’s hummed delightful harmonies, pitching through octaves. Dragon flies, danced playfully above the water and lazy deer lopped on the waters edge enjoying the delightful peace.
“It’s beautiful” Nora sighed.
Jack smiled. “Yes, you are.” Nora blushed and looked away; edging herself off the seat she laid back propping her head up on the seat, she slowly closed her eyes soaking up the sun. In her head she replayed the kiss between her and Jack as she watched the colors dance behind her lids.
A few moments passed in silence, Jack in awe at Nora. Leaving his position at the front of the boat, he edged closer to Nora. He lay next to her, resting his head on the seat, lightly brushed his fingers across hers, intertwining them together. Her hands were softy and smooth.
“I wish this could last… forever” Nora sighed, opening her eyes and turning her head back to Jack.
He smiled weakly “Nothing can last forever Nora.”
Nora grimaced faintly unable to bring up enough energy to scold at the thought. “But, I want it too.” She said, her voice almost sounded like a beg.
“I know. I wish it would too. There is nothing I would change about this…not even you.” Jack said lightly.
“I wish. I could hold on to this moment forever” Nora sighed.
“Then. Grasp this moment while you can.”- Jack whispered. - “And never let go”
“And if I can't? Nora said worryingly.
“Then hold on to me, a I will help you” Jack replied finally drawing his eyes away from her face, in a spilt second to look down, where his hands were intertwined in hers.
Jack huffed, slowly sitting up. Nora’s hands were still holding his in a firm grasp, she never wanted to let go.
She slowly sat up next to him. When she finally released his hand, she wanted it back immediately. She followed him to the end of the boat, snatching up his hand;
He smiled softly, turning the boat towards a small stretch of undisturbed beach. Nora’s eyes widened when she saw the stretch of beach, how romantic, she thought.
As soon as the boat slowed onto the shore bank, Jack leaped from the boat. He un-latched a thick rope, that was attached to the front on the boat, and hoisted the rope on to his shoulder.
Nora began to stand as Jack gave one force full tug on the rope, the boat jerked forward- wedging itself on to the sand- caused Nora to fall forward in the boat. She started to giggle as lifted her head, her hair spilling over her face.
Pushing her back, Jack was suddenly in front of her, she giggled again. Standing up again, steadying herself she jumped from the boat.
“I would have helped you” Jack insisted.
“I’m perfectly fine on my own” Nora smiled, moving past him. Jack caught up to her quickly wrapping his arm around her waist.
She stopped, stared; the heavy smell of lake had faded into the air, mixing in with different aromas. Nora smelt traces of pine needles and tree sap- like back at the house- and wild flowers but there was no smell of tobacco. The trees that enclosed around the beach were thicker; none had to be cut down, they were just there.
