Nora set the china plate lightly down on the table, the gold rim sparkled in the light of the over hanging chandelier. She walked up the side of the table, and stopped when she came to the head. She rested both of her hands on the top of the leather chair, looking down the table she smiled. It was finally set, six plates, six napkins, twelve glasses, eighteen pieces of cutlery, two vases-each filled with a dozen red roses and two candle sticks.

Everything was ready.

She stood staring around the room in silence, in the kitchen, through the door behind Nora; she could hear Oscar preparing dinner. She gripped the leather on the chair squeezing tightly looking past her hand she noticed a fork out of place she quickly righted it.

There was a loud bang at the door, and it made her jump. She could hear her mother racing down the staircase to get the door, and her father not far behind. The loud clapping sound of her mother's shoes stopped abruptly when she made it to the door. The handle clicked and the door creaked open. Nora didn't feel that her presents would be needed.

"Hello, welcome" she heard her mother greeting their guest.

"Hello, it's been so long" replied a voice, high and light, like Ethel. A women, clearly.

"Yes too long" said Edmund.

"Indeed" said another voice, deep. A man.

"Where is Nora?" asked the women

"In the dinning room, I think? Nora can you come here and greet our quests" said Ethel.

No! Nora thought to herself. She huffed, took a deep breath. Squeezed the leather once more before walking from the dinning room to the entrance hall. She came around the corner before stopping abruptly.

There in the door way was Martha Finn, Ted Gold and standing behind them on the porch eyes locked on Nora with a slight smug expression on his face was Jack. Nora's jaw fell, she forced it shut, she couldn't believe her eyes. She walked forward crossing the hall and stopping next to her father.

"Honey you remember, Martha and Ted" Edmund said gesturing towards them. Nora forced herself to look away from Jack and up to his parents. They too over the last eight years had some-what changed in appearance, Martha looked taller than she had. He face was rounder, her hair had darkened but she had the same blue eyes she shared with Jack Ted defiantly had gotten taller there were a few grays coming into is hair and his moustache. His ears had gotten bigger, but his hazel eyes still shimmered. Nora smiled, nodded and said "Yes, it's been a while".

Martha nodded in agreement. "It has. Six years I think?"

"Eight" Nora corrected

"Oh my, that long...well do you remember Jack" She gestured to Jack and he smiled at Nora, she grimaced.

"Yes." She replied sourly.

"He's eighteen, and you are?"

"Seventeen, eighteen in a month" she replied dryly.

"Oh, well, great" she smiled at Nora, and then looked up Ethel and Edmund.

"Shall we" Edmund gestured. Ted nodded "Lets". Ethel and Martha walked off to the dinning room together staying close, Ted and Edmund not far behind exchanging hand shakes. Nora watched her parents leave, and then turned to face Jack.

"Shall we" he said lightly and cheerfully. Nora fumed at him.

"Why didn't you tell that you were coming to night? Maybe I wouldn't have dreaded it like I have been and maybe I would have put one of my quainter dresses on" she let out a breath when she'd finished. Jacks eyes widened.
