Chapter 6: Fire
“You element is fire, Annabelle. Channel your anger and I want you to burn this stack of paper. Imagine them burning up in flames and the relief that will come after.”
I thought of Josh, of my dad, and how my mom was still left there. I had abandoned her! Anger bubbled up inside me, and a flame flew from my right hand fingertips and lit the stack of papers on fire, although it didn’t catch through all of them and only made a small, sizzling hole.
“Was that not enough?” I asked my Aunt Ashton, and she smiled.
“I know about your father, and your anger is slowly going to die away and you’ll be able to summon fire all on your own. It takes time and patience.”
I nodded and began to channel my anger again, determined to burn those papers to ash. I thought of everything that I could ever be angry about, including Opal being rude, and fire literally exploded from my hand and lit the entire table of fire. I gasped in surprise and looked at Ashton, wondering what we should do.
“Control it. Make it bend to your will.” I did as she told, concentrating on forcing the fire to rise and disappear. Instead of disappearing, it simply became smaller and smaller, until it was about the size of a finger nail. I slapped it with my hand and it went out, but there was still a gigantic hole in the table that was smoking. I looked at Ashton, wondering if I would be in trouble.
“I never liked that table anyways. Now, let’s move this to the trash and we can continue with our lessons!” I laughed, relieved that she wasn’t mad, and helped Ashton throw it away.
“One of the best things about being born from the sun, is that you can change your appearance however you please. The only limit is to your voice and body shape, but that hardly means anything.”
I smiled, I loved changing and trying on new clothes, when I chose them, at least. Right before my eyes Ashton gave herself cropped black hair, deep purple eyes, and light skin. It was amazing! She changed back to her normal blond hair and emerald green eyes,
“Your turn.”
I nodded and envisioned a quiet girl, with long and straight dark brown hair, light blue eyes, and freckles across her nose. Her skin tone was just right, and every inch of her body was perfect, with a few freckles here and there. I opened my eyes and Ashton held out a mirror, and I peered in.
I was exactly as I envisioned, and this made me smile. I’m going to call her Claire, my alter ego.
“Great job!” Ashton said, smiling broadly. “Now it’s time to move back to fire.”
I changed myself back to my long blond hair and green eyes, focusing my energy on lighting something on fire now.
“What should I do?” I asked Ashton, and she smiled.
“I want you to throw a fire ball at me. We are going to practice combat.” I gaped for a moment, but then decided that she would be way better than me anyways.
So, I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and threw a fire ball in the general direction on my Aunt Ashton.

A/N:
I really wanted to make this longer.... but I thought that this was the perfect cliffhanger! You get to see the kinds of things Annabelle can do, and then you get a cliffy... what do YOU think is going to happen? There will most likely be an upload later today, I am going to work on it now, and it will be a lot longer than this. Sun Heir will most likely be shorter than Sun Child, so there's going to be a lot more content to it. Ok, I'm off to work on chapter 7! Please spread the word and vote guys! I really want people to know about this series... it's getting kinda big don't you think?
xx Erin
