Chapter 5: Freaks and Fluffy Pancakes

I followed Opal down a long a hallway, Alicia's heels clicking against the polished floor behind me. I didn't know much about the Moon Lands, but I did know that the people born from the Moon were the most... Unique.

Colors streamed on either side of me, pink, blue, green, purple hair. Opal's hair was actually normal compared to everyone else's. I guess it may be Natalia holding her back, since she had to take her place in a year or two.

Some girls had tattooed swirls around their faces, or had on neon lipstick and wore the wildest clothes. It ranges from shorts over tights to plaid jeans and six-inch heels. Right now is about when I wonder what the sun and star lands are like.

Opal suddenly screamed and sprinted forward, running into a guy's arms. Alicia did the same, almost knocking me over in excitement. No one even stopped and stared at this display of affection, and I stood around awkwardly.

"Helix! We missed you on our shopping trip!" Opal and Alicia screamed in close unison. After a minute or so of waiting, Helix turned his attention to me.

"You have fun, Annabelle?" he asked, smiling.

I laughed lightly, "Sure... Your girlfriends are quite crazy."

Helix boomed a laugh, glancing at Opal and Alicia. Alicia seemed oblivious to the way Opal was glaring at me. What was her problem?

"We need to get going..." Opal said, grabbing Helix's arm roughly and leading us in a rush down the stairs and out the doors of the mall.

"I'm hungry!" Alicia whined as we walked down a street, and I just barely heard Opal sigh.

"Fine. We'll go get breakfast." she switched directions and after a minute or two of walking I saw a small, old-fashioned diner.

"Breakfast?" I asked, it was noon right now.

"Yes." Opal snapped.

Alicia skipped ahead, tugging Opal and Helix with her. I followed shortly behind. They really had a close friendship...

We walked in and a boy walked over. He was tall and a few years older than all of us, with medium-length dark brown hair and light, silvery-brown eyes. Him and Helix did a guy hug, and he smiled graciously at Alicia and Opal. Then his eyes turned to me, and his smile slowly faded.

"Who's this?" he asked.

"Annabelle." I said softly, loosing myself in his eyes. His smile returned, and he pulled me into a warm handshake. I found myself wishing it was a hug.

"I'm Max. Are you Ashton's granddaughter?" He asked.

"Sure am, and proud to be so." I replied, and his smile grew wider.

"Well then, welcome t the Moon Lands!" he said excitedly, leading the four of us to a booth.

"Four signature pancakes with baccon and toast?" He asked.

Everyone nodded in unison, so I did too.

"You'll love it." Max winked at me, before turning around and runing back into the kitchen. Helix, Opal, and Alicia turned back to talking while I strared at the place Max had been.

I think I'll visit this place again soon.
