Chapter 12: Happiness In Bits

I walked down the hallway, making my way back my dorm room. It had been another long day of school, but I was able to not have to do much with people, although Bailey constantly tried to annoy me. Well, more like tried to be my friend, but I just wasn't in the mood.

Max kept on trying to reach me, but I just wasn't ready. I wanted to have a free life, but I had so many problems. I hated who I was right now, so I threw myself into training. Opal was always absent, obviously wandering around the school and practicing on her own time with Alicia and Helix.

I opened up the dorm door and almost screamed.

Ashton was sitting on our couch with my journal in her hand. I immediately went over and stuck my hand out, rudely and silently demanding that she give it back.

"What were you doing with this?"

"Nothing." she said, obviously offended. "I thought you may want it back, that's all."

I nodded, "Okay, thanks. Do you need something?" I subconsciously pulled my sleeves down, even though the shirt was short sleeved. There were a few scars on my wrists, but I had carefully covered them up with makeup and now they looked like I had scraped them on branches.

"I just wanted to say that you have to end your training a year earlier because we believe that Jacob has begun to get more powerful and what we did wasn't substantial enough to hold him back for four years."

I nodded again, "Okay, I've been working hard, so I think I'll be fine."

"There's another thing," Ashton said, and I turned back to look at her, "I've been worried about you. How are you dealing with moving and everything again?"

"I'm good." I said, and went back into my room. I heard the front door shut, and I immediately got into the shower and began to wash away the day's events.

I was going to go the Sun Lands tonight and perform at a club. Bailey's element was also fire, but she was obviously less advanced and incredibly blond. It was adorable, and every once and a while I would catch myself smiling at her.

I stepped out of the shower, looking into the mirror. I gave myself long, wavy, light brown hair, and lighter green eyes with tanner skin. This was good for the performance, I decided.

I pulled on a pair of short shorts and a navy blue lace shirt, slipping on a pair of small heels and adding a bit of makeup. I put on a pair of pearl earrings and my sun necklace, liking the way it highlighted my eyes.

I smiled lightly in the mirror and walked out where Bailey was waiting. She had on a baby pink sweetheart dress, with her blond hair curled and a dab of mascara on. Her heels were white, and were strappy and high so that way she was taller.

"You look gorgeous!" she said, smiling at me and leading me outside and towards the portal that would take us to the Sun Lands.

I stepped into a shimmering world, with trees on every corner side and sun streaming down. There were always twinkling lights strung around the streets and bright displays in the windows of shops that lined the streets.

The Sun Lands was a place for people to come when they needed an escape, a place where everything was peaceful and you were safe. Of course, bad things would happen every once in a while because not all those born from fire were necessarily good, but the Sun Lands were always bright.

Bailey led me to a plain building, with a simple door and windows that showed a lounge with a smoothie bar and a few people milling around.

"Downstairs and upstairs is an exclusive club, only for those with the fire element." Bailey told me, showing her pass to a big man to go downstairs. I did the same, and we walked into a completely different world.
