Chapter 8: Confrontation

Back in my room, I threw myself on the bed and began crying softly. School started tomorrow, of all days, and I had zero friends! No one would accept me and-

“Annabelle?.” A girl said and I looked over to see Rhea, of all people. “Max is looking for you…” she trailed off and I groaned. I didn’t ask for this!

“Tell him to go away.” I said and she nodded, typing something into her phone and coming to sit next to me on my bed.

“I take it you know that he’s your soul mate?” she asked.

“Yes… and I hate it! Do I have no choice in who I love?!”

“Calm down… and yes, you do. But he’ll always be the perfect one for you. Which is why you’ll probably never come to love anyone else, because he’ll always be there for you.” Rhea got up and went out of my room, leaving the door open behind her. I considered yelling at her retreating figure to close it, but decided against it. She was the Star Child, after all, and I’m sure that I’d have more visitors soon. In fact, Ashton walked into my room next, and I turned so that way my face was into my tear-streaked pillow. I was not in a social mood.

“You weren’t there for Opal’s birthday.” She stated plainly, causing me to lift my head. Ashton was generally not very plain, Natalia was. I nodded in conformation.

“You were expected to turn up to her ball and be introduced to most of the kingdom that attended. You are still unnoticed.” I shrugged, and Ashton sighed heavily.

“I am not understanding, why you are not accepting your future?” She said it like a question, and it annoyed me.

“Maybe because no one here, my age, actually likes me, I have a soul mate at the age of sixteen, I am on a secluded island, and for all I know my dad or brother have killed my mom!” I sighed, exasperated.

“Annabelle, people don’t know you, and they will like you. As for your soul mate, I guess you’ve met Max then.” She winced slightly before continuing, “As for your family, I’m sure they are all ok, or your mom is okay at least. In fact, I got word that she had left and was currently in California getting a job as a real estate agent.”

I looked at my aunt shocked for a moment before a smile broke out onto my face, “Everything is okay?”

“Everything is okay.” Ashton confirmed and I was pulled into a soft hug. “Now let me take you to the movie theater.”
