Chapter 13: Shopping and Surprises
I woke up groggy, but elated. The events of last night came back to me in a rush, making a wide smile appear on my face. I looked around the room and noticed Bailey sleeping on the floor, so I stood up and nudged her with my foot.
"Bailey," I said, "Wake up!"
She quickly sat up, looking up at me with glossy eyes.
"What?" she said.
"What are we doing today?" I asked her, waiting to find something to do. Bailey and I started getting closer and she always had really good ideas on things to do.
"Well..." I could tell she was just waking up now, "We should get your hair and nails done, and go out to eat, and shop!"
I sighed, we did this a lot, "Sure, when do you want to go?"
We both looked at the clock and saw that it was almost lunchtime.
"Now!" Bailey said and got up, going over to her room where I heard her banging around and getting dressed.
I walked over to my closet, deciding on an open knit sweater with a black tank underneath, along with a pair of black capris. I put on some pink eye shadow, mascara, and lip gloss before quickly braiding my hair in a sloppy fishtail before going out to our lounge.
Marissa was sitting there, watching TV and eating a bagel.
"Morning," she said, turning to look at me, "You seeing anyone today?"
"Not that I know of, why?"
"No reason." I gave Marissa a wondering look, but Bailey came out of her room so our conversation ended.
"You ready to go?" she asked, all chipper.
"Sure," I said, grabbing two pieces of bread and popping them into the toaster. "Are we going shopping first?" I asked.
"If you want to!" Bailey smacked a piece of gum loudly. I noticed Marissa had a fairly irritated look on her face. What was up her butt?
"Sounds good," I replied as the toast popped up. I quickly spread butter on it and then we were out the door.
Outside it was fairly warm, but I could feel the winter coming. I also had a lot of tests coming up, but I could worry about that later.
Suddenly I remembered how I had my family, my mom, at home, and began stressing about what to get her. A ticket to Hawaii? A necklace? A scrapbook? I could do a scrapbook of my time here, but that would require a lot of lying about having a great time... Maybe I could have great time if I tried?
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even realize that Max was right in front of me, and I was now walking straight into him.
I almost fell onto my butt but we quickly caught me, holding me extremely close. I ducked my head, quickly stepping away and avoiding his eyes. His eyes were so... I shook myself, making my mental thoughts shut up.
"Sorry." I mumbled and caught up to Bailey, linking arms with her as we continued to the Sun Lands.
*~*~*~*
After shopping for four hours and getting a ton of random but new and cute clothes, I was so done with Bailey's bubbly attitude and could really use some downtime. How did she still have energy?
"So, where to now?" she asked with a constant smile on her face.
"How about back to the school? I'm going to start working on that scrapbook I told you about."
"Awesome!"
I had decided just to go ahead and make a scrapbook to send home, it would last longer and have a lot more substance to it. Anyways, Bailey was a good person to have in your pictures, and if not a very good friend.
We made our way back to the school, where it was all quiet. Most people were studying or practicing their element, which reminds me that I really need to work on my battle skills.
Opal had gotten really... angry, you could say, lately, and every word she said was really starting to get to me.
No-good blond, you can't do s**t, go die in freaking hole
I pushed her words out of my mind, they only made me angry, and walked next to Bailey to the dorm room. Marissa was gone, instead Natalia was sitting on our couch.
Bailey gave me a nervous look before scooting off to her bedroom, leaving me to talk with the Moon Queen.
"Hello," I said, sitting down on the chair next to the couch.
"Hi, Annabelle, I wanted to talk to you about something."
I nodded, urging her to continue.
"Well, today in training you will be fighting against Opal, just because you both have very different powers, and this will help you strategize against people with different elements in real battle."
I just sat there, still. I was going to fight Opal? I guess she could read my expression, because she quickly gushed soemthing out.
"Oh, don't worry, everyone will be watching and I'm sure Opal wouldn't try to kill you on purpose, I mean, you may get injured, badly, but I'm sure you'll heal soon and-"
I held up my hand, "It's fine, it's okay. I'm going to go train now, if you don't mind."
"Oh, umm, yes, of course. You go, do that. I'll just let myself out."
I nodded, and Natalia gave me a weak smile before hurrying out. I ran into my room, throwing on a pair of thick blue leggings and tight white tank top, slipping into my white sneakers and pulling my hair into a pony tail.
It would be about three hours before I fought Opal, so I would work out for an hour and a half and then go back to the dorm and rest, shower, and prepare.
I was going to win this and prove her wrong. I was strong and lethal and could beat her any day.
This time, she would end up injured. Badly.
