Sunny phones me the next day. “Hey.”
My brow raises. “Excuse me, who is this?”
Sunny let's out a low chuckle, but sadness trims his voice. “I guess I deserve that.”
I snort, almost laughing to myself. Screw him. But there's a cut in my chest, a deep one. I sigh. “So where are you now?”
Sunny sighs. I can just see him run a hand through his hair. “Listen, I only left for you.”
I feel the tears prick my eyes. “You left for me? What the fuck makes you think that this is good for me?”
“Those guys...”
I blink. “What did those bastards do?”
“They threatened me; they threatened to hurt you, Gin. And I didn't want you to know...you do stupid things when you're mad.”
“Why didn't you just tell someone?” I ask, feeling the exhaustion in my bones.
“Their parents have cash, Gin. The only way is to-”
“Fight,” I say defiantly. “Not run. Now get your ass back home, Sunny Down.”
I hang up the phone and leave the house.
I have something to take care of.
