“I know it was you,” that girl from the change room says to me by my locker, voice low.
I look at her blankly. “I…”
Yeah, this hadn’t occurred to me. I’m an idiot.
She smiles. Her smile reminds me of watermelon. You know, when it’s cut up into those slices? She’s got a big smile. “It’s okay…”
“I, er…sorry?” I say, not being very sincere.
She snorts. I bet she doesn’t snort like that in front of just anybody. “No, it’s fine. Really. I mean, I have to get a new lipstick, but I think what you did was very…brave.”
“They pissed me off. It was just anger.”
“But brave…and a little stupid.”
I consider it. “A combination of three?”
She snorts.
