“Sunny and I…we go far back, Gin.”

“So far back, it's ancient history, huh?” I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

He smirks a little, amused. It was meant to hurt, but I guess my humour is too much for him. “Not quite. Since kindergarten, actually.”

“Did you steal his crayons?”

Brandon shakes his head. “No.” He lets out a long sigh. “He came to me a few weeks back, asking for a place to stay.”

My blood freezes. “What?”

Brandon nods solemnly. “I knew he was mixed up with you.”

My eyebrows shoot up. “Mixed up?”

Brandon's eyes grew wide. “I didn't mean-that's not...” He let out a shaky breath. “Sorry.”

“Don't be,” I say a little too harshly. “So he's at your house now?”

Brandon shakes his head slowly, still fazed. “That's just it, Gin. I get home from school and he's gone.”

I still, heart pounding, head swimming. “I have to go.”
