I’m cutting up a mango I bought from the supermarket when the doorbell rings.
Jumping, I drop the knife I was using, and hurry to answer the door.
“Honey, who is it?” my mom shouts from her bedroom down the hall.
“Just a friend asking about homework!” I call back, a huge lie. “I’ll take it outside, Mom!”
“You do that!”
I open the door.
My heart sinks.
