I had been at work since six this morning working on making sure the new line was on track to come out soon. Everything seemed to be falling in place but there was still some things that had to be taken care of. While doing this I had to finish up the last touches of my proposal all without causing myself too much stress or else I would be back on bed rest and I could not have that.
As I was about to make a call Mr. Richards walked in and sat down. "Ms. Marshall glad to see you are well."
"Thank you Mr. Richards. Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Just coming in to check on my hardest working worker and see if everything is on schedule for the fall line that is coming out soon."
"Everything for the fall line is on order and will be ready to debut for fashion week."
"Good that's what I like to hear. Now what about your proposal, is it ready?"
"Almost just have to make some last minute changes and that will be ready as well."
"I hope so because we have the meeting with the clients and the current partners in a week. I don't need to tell you how important this is for your future so don't disappoint."
"I won't."
"Well, now that is out of the way, how are you and the baby?"
"The baby is now babies, we are having twins."
"Congratulations! I bet that fiancé of yours is on cloud nine." I smiled remembering his face when we found out. "Yes he was sir. He is very determined that we are having boys."
"I was the same way with my last one, I was so sure I would be having a boy and it turned out to be a girl. Now don't get me wrong I was happy for my baby girl but I was really wishing for a boy, but I guess I will just have to accept my three girls that God has given me."
"Wow can't imagine having three girls in the house. We already have one and she is more than enough."
"Trust me three will drive you crazy. The oldest just came to me about dating and don't get me started when they got their first period. I thought I was going to die every time."
"Sounds like fun."
"Not really but I wouldn't trade the memories for anything in the world. So tell me when shall I expect you to be taking your maternity leave?"
"I will be taking my honeymoon before I take maternity leave sir."
"Ah that is right, pardon my scatter brain. Well I will leave you alone now just wanted to check in on my best worker and make sure everything was okay."
"Thank you sir everything is fine."
"That is what I like to hear."
When he left I went back to working on the line and making some last minute calls. I wanted to go home but I knew I couldn't leave until I got this done. I also knew Cordell would be calling me soon to make sure I was going home or at home. He was making sure I stuck to our plan which I couldn't argue about since I agreed to it.
"Auntie!" I looked up and saw Trinity running to me at full force. I got up and picked her up twirling her around. "Can't believe I get to see my favorite niece."
"I mwiss you auntie." She stuck her fingers in her mouth. "And I missed you too. Have you been good?"
"Yes but mommy says no."
"Speaking of mommy, where is your mommy?" she shrugged her shoulders and started playing with my hair. I walked out to the main lobby to see her talking to Denise. "So you just let your child run wild in my place of business while you stand out here and talk your head off?"
"Do you know how rude you are being right now? I am out here trying to have a decent conversation and you come out here interrupting."
"Yea with my assistant who has a job to be doing."
"I swear you are difficult." She said good bye to Denise then walked into my office. "You want to tell me why you are here on a work day or do I need to call my fiancé and tell him you are playing hooky?"
"You try it and I will tell him how you were up here way pass your working time." I really hated her sometimes. I put Trinity down and she went to play on the couch in my office with the toys she leaves here. "I'm waiting."
"Give me a second damn and I will get there."
"Hey watch your mouth around my niece."
"Don't be telling me what to do. Now I need you to watch Trinity for me."
"You want try that again?" she sighed. "Will you watch Trinity for me?"
"Why?"
"Because your fiancé is trying to expand, he is sending me on a business trip."
"For how long?"
"Three days."
"Why didn't you just ask him all of this at work? I mean he is the one sending you away."
"Because you are my best friend and I still think asking him something like that is weird. So will you do it?"
"You already know I will but you have to make it up to me when you get back."
"Okay when I get back I will do whatever you want on me." She took Trinity and told me she would drop her off at the house later on. I finished up my work and headed to my mother's house since she said she was cooking lunch.
"Thought you weren't going to show up." I put my things down and went straight to what she had in the pots on the stove. "Had to finish up some work before I came and then Grace stopped by." I stuck my finger in the clam chowder she had cooked. "What did she want?"
"She asked me to watch Trinity for three days while she is on a business trip." I got a bowl and filled it up. She didn't say anything like she was thinking about something deep. I took that as my opportunity to stuff my face. "Do you think I'm too old to date?" I almost choked on my food when she asked that. "I mean I know I'm not old but do you think I have left my dating years?" I just pushed my soup away since I knew I wouldn't be able to eat and discuss my mother's want to date. "Why are you asking me this mom?"
"Because I see you finding happiness and I want that too, you know. I have spent years alone after your dad left bitter and now I want a new start. I want to come home and know someone is here waiting for me. I love you and my grandchildren but I need more." I never thought of my mom needing more. "Mom I think if you feel this way then you should date. You are not too old but just take things slow."
"So you wouldn't be mad?"
"No mom, I wouldn't be mad. Just don't tell me about anything you do in the bedroom and I will be fine."
"Deal but I will need your help getting back out there." I nodded and pulled my soup back to me. "You know I never told you this but I really do admire you for leaving Lucas. I know I wasn't there for you like I should've been but I am proud of you took care of yourself and got yourself out of the situation." I guess this was just a day full of surprises. "I honestly don't think I could've ever did what you did and then have the guts to give love a second chance."
"It was hard at first but Cordell worked with me."
"And I'm glad you found him. I know I didn't before but I am glad it was him you get to have all this with."
"Thanks mom." She smiled. "No, thank you for being the strong daughter any mother could ever ask for." She kissed my forehead and then refilled my bowl.
