Ethan and I have been together for a few hours now. Being with another person again was kind of strange and I didn't know how to act around him.

"So," Ethan mumbled, glancing at me. "Have you always been by yourself?"

I licked my lips as I thought. "Well, I was at (f/p) when....this whole thing started. When I figured out what was happening exactly, I tried to get home as fast as I could but the streets were backed up like crazy. By the time I got home it was too late and my family was gone. I saw one of my neighbors outside fighting off their sibling and helped them. After that, we stuck together for a few months until they got bit. I've been alone ever since."

All Ethan could do was stare straight ahead, unsure what to say. We walked in silence for a few moments, until I got curious.

"What about you? What's your story?" I questioned.

He shrugged. "Not much. I was with my friends, all of a sudden the dead came back to life. We left LA and drove for a while. Now we're....here."

"What about your family?"

"I don't even know." Ethan stated, looking pained to talk about the situation. "I moved to LA to pursue my dreams and they stayed back in Maine."

"Oh." Was all I could manage to say.

"At least you actually know what happened to your family. I'm always wondering what happened to mine, if they could be alive." Ethan pointed out, kicking a piece of broken concrete away from himself.

"Maybe one day you'll find them." I trailed off, highly doubting that statement. Deciding it would be best to change the topic, I asked the only thing that came to my mind. "What did you mean by dreams, exactly?"

Ethan raised his eyebrows like he was surprised I wanted to know more about him. "My one friend asked me if I wanted to move in with him. I'd been doing YouTube for a few years and I thought it would be pretty cool to live in LA, I guess."

"YouTube, huh?" I smiled, remembering the days where I could just sit and watch anything I wanted. "What was your channel?"

Ethan chuckled to himself. "It wasn't even that great. It was calle-"

A groan was heard and Ethan and I looked to one another. I turned my head, looking for the walker, spotting it under a car. "I got it." I told him as I walked over, stabbing it trough the brain with my knife.

"I can see that." Ethan said once he reached me.

I looked down at the walker and crossed my arms over my chest. "Hey, after two years it gets pretty easy to kill them."

Ethan nodded at my comment, lightly tapping the walkers head with his dirty sneaker. "You could probably just kill one by poking it with a stick."

"A really sharp stick." I corrected.

"I was joking, sheesh." He snorted, putting his hands up in defense. "(___), you need to lighten up a bit."

I rolled my (e/c) eyes playfully. "I'll lighten up when you stop being so annoying."

"Hmm," Ethan thought for a moment "guess that's not gonna happen then."

I hummed in agreement, not really sure how to respond. The two of us made some smalltalk here and there, me glancing at Ethan multiple times, checking out his features.

Maybe he wasn't so bad.
