My (e/c) eyes shifted to Ethan and the man who were still fighting, immediately moving back to the girl with the gun.
She kept her eyes on me as she asked a question. "Why are you here?"
Ethan decided to answer for me. "We were just looking for-" he shoved the man on top of him back. "Some food....for our group."
"It's true." I added.
"Well, it belongs to us." The man Ethan was fighting with stood up, crossing his arms.
He slammed his foot against Ethan's head, knocking him unconscious. I took in a sharp breath at the sight.
"Sean," the girl began "what should we do with them?"
The man, now known as Sean, gave me a disgusted look and shrugged. "If the rest of their group comes, we could use them somehow."
"Should we tell the others?" The girl asked, Sean nodding.
"You go Signe, I'll watch them."
"Okay." She nodded, leaving the room.
Sean waited for a few seconds before turning to me. "You really think you'd get off that easy?"
I furrowed my eyebrows. "We really were-"
"Signe would have gotten pretty mad if I just....killed someone." He interrupted, walking closer to me.
I held up my knife, showing Sean I wasn't afraid to hurt him with it. But I was afraid. These two years, I haven't had to kill a person. Sean grabbed my wrist, twisting it to the side, causing me to let out a shriek. I lifted my foot, slamming it against his privates. Sean took in a sharp breath, clearly very angry at this point.
I raised my eyebrows, demanding. "Just let us leave, pl-"
Sean wrapped his hands around my neck, slamming me against the wall. I kicked at Sean in an attempt to get him away but he didn't budge. The corners of my vision started going dark, my lungs screaming for air. It was like I could feel the life leaving me.
"Come on!" Sean groaned, slamming me against the wall again. "Just die alr-"
His body jerked suddenly, his hand immediately grabbing what I assumed was his stomach. My body slammed against the floor and I gasped for air, looking up.
"Ethan?"
Ethan was still lying on the ground, a gun held in his hand. His eyes were angry and his breaths were heavy. Ethan's eyes moved to me, looking horrified. I started crawling toward him, Ethan lifting himself up and running to me.
"Are you okay?" He questioned when he got to me.
"Yeah," I said, still trying to regain my breath. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"Fuck!"
Ethan and I both turned to see Sean clutching where he got shot, blood staining his hands and shirt. Ethan helped me up, the two of us trying our best to ignore Sean's pain.
We heard other voices downstairs, now making their way up the stairs and through the hallway quickly.
"Ethan, we need to go now!" I demanded, looking to the almost completely cracked window.
Ethan nodded, kicking the glass one last time, the window shattering. He grabbed the bag of food, signalling for me to head out the window first. I climbed out as quickly as I could and made my way down the tree. Ethan dropped down a few seconds after me, both of us immediately running.
"Shoot them!" Someone shouted.
I heard multiple gun shots as I made my way across the open field of grass. Ethan and I ran for what seemed like forever. After a while, when the sound of guns and yelling vanished, we stopped.
"I can't believe that just happened." I let out, pushing some of my (h/c) bangs out of my eyes.
Ethan took in a deep breath. "I just shot that guy. He's probably dead because of me."
"He deserves it, he tried to kill me." I responded casually, leaning against a tree. "Speaking of that, since when did you have a gun?"
"I've had it the whole time." He shrugged.
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "So how come you didn't just shoot me when we first met?"
Ethan stared at me for a moment. "I can't just shoot someone for no reason. It's just....not right."
I slid down the tree, my breathing returning to normal. "Well, I'm glad you're still sane. Seems like you're the only one."
"I don't think I am." Ethan said, dropping the bag of food. "We just took this from them. It was wrong."
I nodded slowly. "I know, but we need it more. Plus, I think they can handle themselves."
"You're probably right." He admitted.
Ethan reached into the bag, grabbing two bottles of liquor. He sat down next to me, pulling a bottle opener out of his backpack and opening them both.
"Thanks." I said, taking a sip.
I placed my head on Ethan's shoulder, closing my eyes. Ethan and I sat in silence for quite some time.
"How's your neck?" Ethan suddenly asked, breaking the silence between us.
I shrugged, opening my eyes and glancing at him. "Sore. How about your head?"
Ethan chuckled, rubbing his now bruised temple. "It feels like I have a golf ball taped to my head."
I giggled, snuggling closer to Ethan. "I'm really glad I'm not alone anymore."
Ethan smiled at me, wrapping his arm around me.
