"You told him?" Andy gasped.
"I had to!" Patrick explained. He knew Andy wouldn't take this news well. He already wasn't too fond of Pete. And that stunt he pulled after the game added the hate to the cake. "He was standing in front of me with prescription pills in his hand."
"How did he get your pills?"
"I guess I dropped them in his car-"
"Patrick, you have to be more careful about things like that. What if he would have thrown them out? You need those to make sure the baby has enough nutrients. Or what if his other dickhead friend would have found it? They would never let up on you. Everyone would know."
"I get it!" Patrick took his books from the locker. "I'll be safer."
"You'd better." Andy took the books from him. Stacking them on top of his own. "I'm an only child. This is my one chance at being an uncle."
"Uncle Andy, the vegan." Patrick said in his best sport announcer voice.
"So how did Mr. Popularity take it?"
"He was," Patrick thought back to crying in Pete's arms in front of the door. "He was really nice about the whole thing. He was mad because I didn't tell him before. He's confused obviously."
"Obviously."
"But he's kind of happy about it. In his own way. We talked about going to my next appointment together. Even baby names." He grinned.
"Did you talk about getting back together?"
His smile faded. "No."
"Do you think he still wants to?"
"I-I don't know."
"I think it's weird that he was so persistent about getting together before, but he didn't bring it up after talking about a baby."
"What are you saying, Andy?"
"Maybe the baby is scaring him off?"
"He came back all weekend."
Andy only shrugged.
"Hey there, Trick." Pete's voice shocked them both.
He pushed himself between Andy and Patrick. Patrick couldn't hide his excitement at seeing Pete again. Especially considering that he was bold enough to approach him in the crowded school hallway. Where everyone could see them talking. One of the most popular guys in school and the least popular.
"Hey, Pete."
"What's up, Aaron?"
"It's Andy."
"How are you feeling?" Pete bit his bottom lip as he studied Patrick's face.
"I'm feeling good."
"Have you taken your pill?"
"Took it this morning!" He said proudly.
"He knows when to take his pill." Andy rolled his eyes.
"So, Tricky." Pete ignored him. Making sure to focus his gaze solely on Patrick. "The school is having a dance is this weekend. Do you want to go? With me, I mean."
