Pete definitely woke up on the lucky side of his bed this morning. It should not have worked out that perfectly with Patrick. It was almost like the entire situation was written in his favor.
He was worried when Sarah approached him this morning about the dance. Especially since she wanted to go as a 'couple'. They were very much not a couple. The closest they'd ever gotten to that was an awkward hug.
But all the football players and cheerleaders were around when she asked. So not only would it embarrass the hell out of her if he denied her, but it would be suspicious of him. The guys would want answers. What logical reason could he have for turning down one of the prettiest, smartest, and nicest cheerleaders in the school? None that would make sense to the guys. Well, except the one that was actually true.
He was gay. And he wanted to be involved with someone else. Someone who was holding his baby in their stomach for crying out loud.
But he couldn't tell them any of that. So he'd smiled and accepted her offer to go to the dance. As her boyfriend.
He could have just been honest with Patrick. Explain to him that he couldn't turn her down without people finding out the truth. And Patrick might have been okay with it. At least he would have said he was. But Pete knew deep down that Patrick would think he was a coward for hiding himself.
So he'd come up with the master plan to ask Patrick to the dance. He assumed dances weren't really his thing. Especially since he was the least popular guy in school. So he wasn't completely surprised to be turned down. He was however, relieved when he turned down his invitation to spend weekend with him instead.
Everything was going to be perfect. He'd spend a few hours at the dance humoring Sarah. Then he'd drive her home and the guys would assume they were spending the night together. But in reality he'd be dropping her off just to head to Patrick's house. Patrick would be happy to see him. He'd use the excuse that he left the dance early because he wanted to spend time with him. Patrick would be happy. Sarah would be happy. The guys would be happy. Everyone would be happy.
He smiled to himself as he clicked open his locker. Grabbing out a few books he wasn't going to use. He shut the door and turned to lean against it. Just as Meagan was walking past.
She still hadn't spoken a word to him since the night in the car. What the hell was her end game? She'd barely even looked in his direction. But this time she was holding eye contact. There was no negativity in her gaze. She looked playful, mocking almost. Pete's eyebrows lowered in confusion. Meagan winked in response.
"Still stuck on MJ, huh?" Mikey broke their silent eye battle.
"What?" Pete reluctantly moved his eyes from hers.
"We've all been there, dude." Ray sighed. "She's like one of those perfect mannequins that you see in department stores. But like the high end department stores. Not like Walmart and Sears."
"Shut up, Ray." Gerard snorted. The other guys laughed.
"Forget about her." Mikey patted his shoulder. "Because you have Sarah now and she's almost as hot."
"And she's a lot nicer." Frank shrugged.
"Well, nice for a cheerleader." Ray corrected.
"I think Sarah is hotter." Gerard pursed his lips. "I prefer the dark hair, wide eyed beauty type."
"You're out of your mind if you think she's hotter." Mikey shook his head in disbelief.
"I kind of see where he's coming from though." Ray smiled. "Sarah has beautiful eyes and a smoking body."
"But Meagan's body is crazy fit." Frank sighed in memory. "Once I saw her doing squats in gym and just- oh my lord."
"Yeah." Mikey agreed. "No chick in this school is hotter than Meagan."
"A few guys are." Pete whispered so no one could hear."
"What was that?" Mikey frowned.
Oh shit.
"What?"
"You said something."
"No I didn't."
"Yeah, yeah you did."
"What'd he say?" Gerard joined in.
"I'm not sure. But it sounded like he maybe said I would guide her."
"Guide her?" Frank frowned. "Guide who? Meagan or Sarah?"
"And where would you guide them?" Ray smirked.
"I bet I know." Mikey grinned. Grabbing Pete's neck and ruffling his hair. "You are a dog, Wentz!" He said it as some sort of praise. The others cheered along.
"What can I say?" Pete shrugged. Causing them to cheer harder.
Clearly he was still dancing in his luck.
