Chapter 7

Hayes P.O.V.

No.

This can't be happening. Why? Why Katherine? I can't believe I allowed this to happen to her. I walked over to her, her body layed there frail and lifeless.

"Katherine." I just barely get out her name from my mouth. My eyes already started to well up with tears. My cheeks were red and hot. Guilt entered my body.

I was still so confused. I crouched down and touched her face, and ran my fingers through her hair. I saw from the corner of my eye someone called 911.

"Hayes," Katherine said, "I love you. Don't take this out on yourself." She said as a tear rolled down her cheek.

"Katherine you can't leave me, not now. Its not your time." I said sobbing uncontrollably."HOLD ON KATHERINE!" I screamed as the ambulance people told me I had to step away.

Why did a semi truck have to come now? Why did people start doing this to her? Why, Why, Why? I can't seem to find a valid explaination for any of this.

The ambulance people took her away from me. They sped down the road and I ran chasing after them. I felt so lost and confused.

I ran down the street trying to keep up with the ambulance. My eyes, filled with tears, were just barely managable to see through. How could I not take this out on myself? After running almost three blocks I finally reached the hospital. She's worth my pain, my happiness, even my last breathe. I would give it all to be with her. If I could change everything to where this didn't happen I would in a heartbeat. I may just be a teen and I may not have been married for 50 years, but I do know what love feels like, and thats what I'm feeling.

I ran up to the main office window and asked the lady where Katherine was at, she said she was rushed to the ER. I thanked the lady and then used a payphone to call Nash.

Nash knew I liked Katherine alot he also knew that I would give anything to make her happy. I called Nash while still crying.

"N-N-Nash," I said while stuttering, "Can you m-m-me-meet me at the hospital?"

"Hayes, whats wrong?" He asked, telling something was extremely wrong because I was crying.

"K-Katherine g-got hit by a s-semi truck. What did I do?" I said screaming in the phone.

"Calm down and take a breathe. I'll be there ASAP!" He said then hung up.

I went and sat on the lime green, hospital chair. It hurt and made me feel uncomfortable. The people staring at me made me feel even more uncomfortable.

Why did this have to happen? Will there ever be an explaination for why this happened?

Soon enough Nash showed up with my mom. She started rubbing my back and then telling me to calm down.

"Its gonna be okay. Shush baby Shush." She coed.

"I hope she's okay, mom." I said. "She will be, because she's a fighter." She replied back.

"I'm gonna go check on her." My mom said. She also told me to get some rest.
Sleep was difficult at this point, but somehow I managed to get a good hour.

I heard my mom talking to Katherine's mom,
"She's awake but she's bruised and her leg is broken. She remembers us, but I don't know how she'll adjust after all this." she said.

"How could someone do this to my baby? Why I-I'm still so confused." Katherine's mom asked with a desperate tone.

I got up and gave Ms. Betsy a hug. "Ms. Betsy I'm really sorry. Katherine will get through this."

"Thank you Hayes, that means a lot. You know Katherine really liked you. Her eyes would light up when she talked about you, infact that was one of the many things we bonded over." She said and then smiled. It wasn't a fake smile either, it was more like a genuine smile like she actually meant it. I felt bad though because you could see the pain in her eyes. She longed for her daughter to be alive and healthy in her arms once again.

"When can I see her?" I asked my mom who was pacing back and forth. "Well she's asleep right now, but you should be able to see her when she wakes up in the morning. Try and get some sleep hunny." She said.

"Mom, I'm staying here." I said. 

"We all are." She replied back and then smiled.
