EARLIER THAT DAY

PEYTON'S POV

I woke up and stretched. I walked into the kitchen and Isabel was making pancakes. We ate and then went to the mall. First we went to Hot Topic, but we were broke so we couldn't buy anything. We went to a few other stores, and window shopped the whole time. A few hours later, we were still walking around the mall. I looked at my phone and I had a text from Austin. I didn't read it because I had all of my focus Isabel. I decided to put my phone on silent.

"Ooh," Isabel said with sparkling eyes. "I want that."

She was fascinated by a Naruto hoodie. I took a mental note on that. I looked at the price was $69.99. It would cost a very pretty penny, especially since I don't have a job. I looked back and there was a guy in a hoodie. It probably was a teenage boy or something.

"What's your favorite color?" I asked her.

"Black. Something about black, I don't know. The color black just seems... Well, the black night sky. And when it seems like you hit the bottom, there's still the quiet darkness that somehow makes you excited, but filled with fear," she explained. "What's yours?"

"I like green. Dark green. It makes me think of nature, and nature makes me think of freedom. I wish that I could escape from life into a lush forest."

"Like your eyes?" Isabel asked.

"Yeah, kinda. I know that sounds conceited, but I really like that color."

"No, it's okay to like your eye color. I like it."

I looked back. The person wearing hoodie was gaining. I just realized the hoodie's color. It was black. I kinda just shrugged. We continue talking. I looked back again. That guy was still there, but he was even closer. A few minutes later I heard the cocking of a gun. I quickly looked back and the guy was even closer than before, and he had a gun. I looked into the future, and I used my speed to push Isabel down and I fell down myself.

"What the crap?" Isabel began, but then saw the man. "Who are you?" She asked, with her eyes glowing.

"That's not gonna work Isabel," the man said.

"How do you know her name?" I asked defensively.

"Oh, don't worry, I know your name, too. Now Peyton, will you and your girlfriend come with me, or will we have to fight?"

I ran and kicked him in the chest. He yelped as he fell to the ground, and his hood fell off.

"John? What do you want?" Isabel asked.

"John? How do you know him?" I asked her.

"Isabel, come now. And don't call me John, call me dad, or at least father."

This freaking pervert better stop it before I punch him. Isabel saw the look on my face.

"He's my adoptive father," she explained.

I gritted my teeth. Why can't the boys be here right now? They're strong. Well, Brandon's strong, but Austin has noodle arms. I got into my battle stance.
