Annabeth

Quickly side-stepping from the aim of the gun, I managed to dodge the bullet, but that didn't mean I was left  untouched. It barely grazed my leg and I immediately felt it start to bleed. A stinging sensation left my left leg to go numb. I slowly and delicately touched the opened skin through the fabric of Sally's jeans. My fingers were tainted a crimson color, though I was unfazed. You get used to being covered in blood when you're aiming guns and running for your life for the past year and a half. "Fuck," I grumble and hiss in pain.

Percy, who had been in a frozen state of fear, seemed to snap back into reality long enough to roll up the jeans and examine the wound. "It's not too deep.." His voice was barely above a whisper as he tore a length from the fabric of his shirt and tie it around my injured leg tightly. "You'll be fine. Just make sure you're putting a bit of pressure on it."

"I've got to hand it to you, Annie. You sure know how to find yourself a handy one. Too bad he can't fix your wounds in the grave." Luke's gun aimed for Percy this time, but I quickly got in the middle. Narrowing my eyes, I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Leave him alone. This is between you and me. Now, what the hell do you want?" My heart started picking up, though for all the right reasons. The thought of him putting, yet again, an innocent life at stake left my blood boiling with anger.

He cocked his head to one side as he studied me. A slight shiver ran down my spine and I let out a small huff.

Unbelievable.

He has a gun pointed directly at my head and he still has an effect on me. I hate it. I hate him.

The blond haired male let out a small laugh as his eyes were fixated on mine. "I want you. Come on. You know this war is pointless without you by my side. Join me."

A voice behind me startled me. "She's not going anywhere with you, creep!"

I had forgotten about Percy. He needs to go home before he finds himself in an even bigger mess. With my arms still crossed, I reached into my back-pocket and pulled out a gun. Without hesitation, I aimed and pulled the trigger.

BANG!

Pulling Percy's smooth hand into my rough one, we ran out of the alley without letting him glance back once. My left leg was screaming in pain as it begged me to stop. I could feel blood dripping down and staining Sally's clothes even more. I smelled like a rotten corpse, but I didn't dare let myself slow down. Breathing heavily, I ran and ran until my legs were about to give out. I eventually let us stop and we leaned against the wall of an old building, waiting for our lungs to breathe in enough air.

Percy had been silent the entire run and it was starting to scare me. I kept my face expressionless and reminded myself every reason to stay away from him now.

I'm bad news? Check.

He's a good kid? Check.

He'll be in danger? Check.

Bright sea-green eyes that I could get lost into for hours and jet-black hair that I just want to comb my fingers into? Check. Wait, what? Not check! Bad Annabeth!

I mentally scolded myself and looked up at him, finally finding the courage to look him in the eyes. But seeing his eyes, so full of confusion and worry, I knew that I had to stay away for his safety. So for the second time that day, I ran and not once did I turn around.

This was for the best. I'm sure he already hated me. Besides, he would only hate me even more if he found out I missed the aim on purpose.

A/N: Holy cow. Finally, another update. I haven't felt this motivated to finish a book in a while. I think I'm finally getting over my ex, which is great because it's just in time for finals. Plus with this update out of the way, I can finally focus and study. Wish me luck. By the way, if you don't understand the last paragraph, Annabeth was aiming to hit Luke but she missed on purpose (cause she still has feelings for him) and so she ran far away as possible before Percy could find out. But don't worry, it'll come back to haunt her. All mistakes do. This chapter hasn't been proof-read, blah, blah, blah. Comment and tell me what you thought on the chapter.
