"Hey, you want me to tell you a secret?" Levy winked at Morad. He shrugged and edged in closer.
His pupils slightly widened as Levy whispered to him. His mouth dropped open, this can't be true!
Yesterday, there was a new transfer student in the class.
"Hey, new kid." The drama queen, Emma, greeted loudly. The class chuckled.
"Hey, the new boy, want me to show you around the school during lunch?" The class clown, Jasper, waved. What a surprise that he didn't look sarcastic.
"Th-thank you." The boy stammered and blushed as the class resumed their work.
When lunch break was over, everything seemed normal, a bit too normal.
Morad was the first to notice. The new boy didn't come back!
"Say, Jasper," Morad tapped the cheeky teenager's shoulder as the teacher left the room to get something from her office. "Where's the new kid?"
"Oh, him. Sam, you mean." Jasper laughed. "He'll find his way back."
But the boy didn't, he was missing for the rest of the day. His parents would sort it out, was what Morad thought as he left the school and returned home.
But the day after, today, there was still no sign of Sam.
"Say, Levy," Morad turned to his friend. "Is this true?"
"Well, depends on how you see it." Levy looked up at the sky. "Some say it's just a rumour, but won't you agree that this is the only explanation now?"
Morad looked down at his feet and nodded. The warning bell rang.
"Hurry up, Morad, don't want to be the last one in!" Levy started to run towards the building. Morad bit his lips. He started moving, stopped, hesitated for a few seconds, and turned to the opposite direction.
"I'm going after Sam! I'm checking out the secret rumour!" Morad yelled his reply and started making his way towards the old campus. But he bumped into someone as he turned to ignore Levy's protest.
"Oww, that really really really hurt!" complained Emma, having her hands on her hips. "What you doing? Get back to class now. Or, do you want to go missing like the new kid? Oh! Or are you the one who went out during class and kidnapped him?"
With that, Morad had no choice but to follow Emma back to English class. Levy released her frowning eyebrows at the sight of him.
"Morad. Listen." She whispered to him as the teacher turned to write something on the board. "The thing I told you is still a secret. Don't go around letting everyone know, okay?"
Just as Morad opened his mouth to reply, the teacher turned around and glanced at him. "Morad. No talking in class. Out you get!"
Morad stood by himself in the empty hallway. His stomach twitching. If what Levy said earlier was true, then Sam could be in some serious trouble.
"Whatever!" He yelled and ran down the corridor and out of the building. I'm not taking chances!
"Sam! Sam? Are you there?" Morad searched for him as he slowly approached the old campus that was abandoned almost a decade ago. The building seemed eerie and extra empty with no one else on the oval.
He walked up the doorsteps and took a deep breath before pushing open the big wooden door. He didn't know why, but it didn't seem creepy to him that the door was unlocked.
