I walked across the hospital parking lot, arms folded in an attempt to stop the cold from seeping in. I pulled my thin cardigan tighter around me, wishing I'd brought a hoodie.
I was so glad Thomas was being discharged today, I'm not sure how long I could last while none of my friends were speaking to me. I would get to talk to him instead, and hug him, and kiss him..
I enter the harsh white ward, barely able to contain my excitement. He's already standing up, smiling at me as I break into a jog.
"Hey, young lady, no running in the wards!" A nurse scolded me, and I replied without taking my eyes off Thomas. "Sorry, I'll slow down," and I did, until I crashed into his open arms, clinging to him as he wrapped his arms around me and buried his face in my hair.
"I missed this so much," he whispered, and I couldn't help the tear that leaked onto his fresh white t-shirt. When we eventually pulled back, he wiped his thumb gently under my eye, one side of his mouth pulling up into a sweet crooked smile.
We walked hand in hand to his car, he was driving and we were meeting his parents back at their house.
"Damn, I think I put my bag down in there, give me a sec," I reluctantly dropped his hand and dashed back into the hospital, where my bag thankfully sat on the floor. I picked it up, smiled at the nurse and rushed back outside.
He was leaning on the bonnet of the car, scuffing his feet. His newly washed hair flopped over his eyes, which stared right into mine as he looked up, crinkling as he grinned.
I paused, suddenly overwhelmed by my feelings for him. "Milly?" He asked, before I ran to him, pushing him back against the car. My lips found his and I kissed him more passionately than I ever had, winding my hands into his hair, holding his face to mine. He smiled against my lips, his arms that were leaning on the car came around my waist so that he was holding me to him as well. I broke off for a breath, and after he placed a small kiss on my neck Thomas straightened up and tucked my hair behind my ear.
"Not here, let's wait until we're out of sight of the nosy nurses, eh?" I simply nodded, and we both got into the car.
He hesitated with his hand on the wheel, turning to look at me. "I love you," he said suddenly. I felt my eyes widen slightly, I hadn't expected that. "I love you too."
He started driving, one of his hands holding mine. I stopped holding it to tie up my hair, and he kept his hand on my knee, it was warm and I liked it. I moved his hand slightly higher, checking his reaction. He looked at me, asking permission with his eyes, and I couldn't keep the smile off my face as I nodded. He rested his hand just below where my dress stopped, in the middle of my thigh. I sighed happily, but I couldn't wait to get back indoors.
When we got inside Thomas's parents were waiting. Dan gave him a big hug, and then me as well. "You guys must be so excited to hang out again, I'm glad you're home, son." Thomas and I glanced at each other, and I had to cough to cover up a giggle that nearly escaped.
After a moment of slightly awkward silence, Dan looked at his wife, smiling. "We won't keep you kids any longer, go have fun," he shooed us, and we ran up the stairs, letting our laughter finally break free.
When we got to his bedroom door we both stopped, grinning at each other like lunatics. "We should do something to let them know not to come in," Thomas said while trying to be casual, his hands on his hips. I thought for a second. "Take off your belt," I held out my hand. He did with a confused look, and once it was in my hand I pointedly looked down. "Now your pants," he looked even more confused but started to unzip them.
