A/N Hey guys, just a note before I start the chapter that this will be a flashback sort of chapter, like 'A Reason for Rivalry' was! And as you can probably guess by the title, it will be more than one part. Also I call him Sean here but it will make sense. I hope you enjoy! :D

________

Sean groaned into his pillow as the sound of his alarm clock filled his room, beckoning him to get up and endure another sufferable day at the school he'd grown to hate so. He grumbled as he hit the snooze button for what felt like the 20th time that morning, and rolled over once more so that he was facing the wall.

He heard a harsh knock on the door, followed by the ear splitting shriek of his mother, threatening that if he doesn't get up instantly there will be 'consequences'. Sean rolled his eyes and chuckled at the hollow remark. As if there would be consequences.

Reluctantly, however, he got up from the warm safety that his bed offered, regretting the decision immediately as his bare feet hit the cold hardwood floor of the bedroom.

Sean walked down the stairs, still half asleep, and ignored his mother's witty comment about him eventually rising from his grave, or something. He headed instead to the toaster, and started to make his usual breakfast bagel, already feeling guilty about not saying a single word to his mother. He eventually couldn't take it, as she continued to lightheartedly torment him about his morning attitude.

He turned on the spot, bagel in hand, and smiling widely at his mother, who had momentarily stopped mid-sentence and looked to him expectantly, not sure whether she was about to get an apology or a telling off.

Instead, Sean walked up so they were face to face, only a few inches separating them, and kissed her on the cheek. "Good morning to you too ma." He said, unable to hide his amusement, and receiving a wide smile in return, as she ruffled his hair.

"You be careful at school now," she ordered, putting on her strict voice briefly. "and try to make some friends! It's getting exhausting being your only one!" Sean rolled his eyes and walked out the door, his half eaten bagel still in his mouth.

"Har-de-har, very funny." He bit back, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he heard her soft giggle being cut off by the door swinging shut.

---

The school was bustling with energetic teens when Sean walked in. He didn't share their enthusiasm, as he clutched his coffee and headed directly to his first class before the bell went. It wasn't like he had any friends to talk to before the school started anyway. He took his seat and sighed as he scanned the empty class, dreading what he knew was inevitable.

His pulse rate quickened when Colton and Alex walked through the door, and he looked immediately down at his empty notebook. He had been preparing for the moment where they'd confront him anyway, so it came as no surprise when they took the two seats on either side of him, pulling in closer to confirm Sean's discomfort.

Colton was average height, obviously taller than Sean was, and his eyes were a deep dark blue, not the innocent light shade of Sean's. There was nothing too special about his appearance, but that didn't stop him being the most sought after boy in Sean's grade. He was sort of well built, the muscle on his arms and chest just big enough to show that he regularly goes to the gym, but he was nothing compared to Alex.

Alex was pale, with dark brown hair that Sean had never seen any longer than a buzz cut, his arms were like logs, and his chest was healthily thick. His eyes were hazel, but Jack always tended to think that they be better suited to a light blue colour, with the number of icy stares he dishes out on a daily basis.
