Chapter 4

By the time we got home Loz had set herself up on the sofa with a large bag of chips smothered in curry sauce. Ty and I kicked off our shoes and I plucked my iPod out of my bra. Everyone always told me it was ridiculous but I was convinced it was the best place to keep it. Originally I had a case that strapped to my arm but when it broke I found the best place for it to go was my bra. It always fell out my pocket and I needed my music when I was running. As I dropped next to Loz and stole more than a few chips out the bag, she swore.

“Fucking ass wanking TWAT!” Startled, I managed to drop all the chips I had stolen across my lap and down the floor, I winced, hopefully the curry sauce wouldn’t stain the carpet.

“What was that for!”

“Logan Trewell! We haven’t found him yet there are literally no leads, no one will talk because they are all scared of his dear old Daddy. Who, by the way we are still trying to pin down for three unexplained murders!”

I watched in silence as Ty picked up the chips and walked into the kitchen area to grab a cloth. This whole thing was a massive fuck up on our part as well, someone leaving the keys lying around. I still didn’t know who it was, but they were in for it when they were found. It would probably be a disciplinary or maybe worse.

“I think it’s crazy! You know it will be front page news tomorrow and they will totally make it look terrible for the nurses, and the police for not finding him yet.” Ty said as he threw the wet cloth into my face. “And clean up the sauce it will totally stain.” He was completely right, when did the media ever show anyone in a good light.

I slid onto the floor and scrubbed at the curry sauce before saying, “Well I know it’s awful but I’m just so glad it wasn’t me who left the keys out. The poor bastard is going to be royally fucked! Disciplinary if they are lucky.”

“Or charges pressed for negligence if they’re not.” Loz added in, “But to be honest who is going to admit to it. Everyone will say it wasn’t me and it’ll just be a big blame game. As long as we get Logan I don’t think they will care who left them lying around.”

I laughed at that, “You don’t know Babs she will keep questioning them to get answers and then she will probably kill whoever it was; you’ll have another unexplained murder.” Looking at the clock I realised it was getting late, “Well guys I’m showering then off to be I have to go back tomorrow, and I’m sure that will be a joy.”  I got off the floor and stretched, chucking the cloth into the sink as I passed to grab a glass of water, I then turned and padded across the room and into the bathroom for what I hoped would be a relaxing shower.

The next few days of work were pretty tense, everyone was over cautious of where the drug keys were, and I honestly believe that the nursing practice was the best it had ever been. Everyone was being so carful, afraid to fuck up and make another incident. Ty had been right, front page news. ‘Nurses shame profession by handing over controlled drug keys to known addict and criminal.’ I mean really, that just made it sound like we had freely given him they keys and said “here go crazy the cupboard is yours”.
