THIRTY

The meeting between Matthew and Mason didn't really go all that well. 

Logan was asleep on the couch and he had been playing some of his favourite songs after pausing the episode of Stranger Things that was playing. His phone was placed on her stomach and he was kind of just watching her a little creepily. Then Mason walked into the apartment in her exercising clothes while texting. She looked up briefly to say hi to Logan and ask why the fuck she was playing such crappy music, but almost dropped her phone when she saw Matt sitting on the couch and staring right back at her.

"You're Mason, right?" he asked and got up from the couching, offering his hand for her to shake, which she slowly did. "I'm Matt."

Mason nodded and then raised an eyebrow before doing what she did best - speak quickly while being angry.

"If you don't stay, you're going to be one of those people Logan despise," she said bluntly. "I had part in raising that girl, I know her better than I know myself. Not being a part of Grape's life is almost what our parents did to us, only that they were around sometimes to ask if we had any money but that's not the point." She looked up at him and crossed her arms. "The most important part of being a father is also the easiest one - it's about just being there for your kid and loving them unconditionally." She glanced at Logan, who was still asleep, before continuing. "I'm sure you're a great guy and that your life might seem perfect right now, but a baby might not be that bad of an addition to your life. Just, just consider what I told you, okay? Logan wouldn't hate you even if you decided to not have any part in Grape's life, but it would break her heart."

Then she walked into the bathroom and started the shower, leaving Matthew speechless. A couple of minutes later Logan woke up and looked at him weirdly.

"How did you know that this is my favourite song?" she asked sleepily before falling back asleep, snoring quietly. Matt went back to the couch but sat down on the floor instead and looked at her bump.

"I don't want you to hate me, Grape," he whispered, unaware of the fact that Mason had opened the bathroom door and was looking at him. "I'm falling in love with your mom, she's quite amazing. The thing is, she doesn't want me to stay in your life if I'm doing it just for her. She apparently didn't have the best upbringing, and now I'm just another person letting her down." He gently grazed the clothed skin with his fingertips. "But I'm starting to reconsider my choice, maybe I would be an okay dad."
