************Danielle
The past four months had been a nightmare. I thought that Christian moving out was only temporary, I thought he would cool off and that we would get back together and make things work between us. But he had made the move permanent.
He had moved in with Corey for the first month and told me that he needed some time to himself to figure things out. Two months later when he went and rented his own apartment and I knew then that he was sending me a sign that he was serious about this separation. So I was left alone in our apartment worrying about our marriage all by myself.
We didn't talk. The first couple of weeks I would send him text messages and I would call to check on him. I tried my best to keep dialogue between us open but he would always be short with me and sometimes didn't even take my call at all. Eventually, I stopped calling altogether because I was tired of feeling rejecting by my own husband.
I tried to put Odell and that night out of my mind but when Odell surprised me by calling me out of the blue the week before, all of that trying was for nothing.
I remembered everything the moment I heard his voice on my phone. I didn't call him back because I knew that he was nothing more than a temptation for me and that he probably viewed all of this as just a game. I had no time for games and I knew that I meant nothing to him.
I was still trying to work out things with Christian even though it was beginning to look as if there was nothing left to work out.
"Danielle," my boss Howard McCathery called my name forcing me to look up from my computer. "We have a huge client sitting in our lobby requesting for you to show him houses."
"Who is it?" I asked trying to look inside of the lobby.
"You won't believe it," Howard said grinning like a greedy cat while moving over my desk, "Odell Beckham Jr. is in our lobby!" He all but wanted to scream it seemed like, "he wants to find a vacation home and decided that San Diego would be the perfect place."
I froze. "Find someone else." I told him definitely, shaking my head.
I tried to resume typing the email I was working on but my fingers were shaky across the keyboard.
"Are you nuts?" Howard whisper-yelled at me, "do you know what the commission is on just a million dollar house?"
"I can't do it." I tried to explain to him while struggling my way through the email.
"You have to do it." Howard said in an authoritative tone, "you're the best one I have and he specifically requested only you."
"I'm sorry Mr. McCathery, but I can't do it."
"Danielle." He said giving me a warning look. "I would never force you to do anything against your will, but I am telling you to get from behind that desk and show that damn football player out there some houses," he said firmly pointing his finger towards the lobby, "or you will be fired."
"Yes sir." I said furiously.
I finished typing my email and pressed send. Then I grabbed my blazer and shoved it on my shoulders. I looked up to see Odell in the lobby posing for pictures with the other ladies in their office.
