"Dee, we are not about to do this right now, not while you are drunk." Christian said rubbing his face. "Let me walk you inside so I can make sure that you have a ride home."
"Why can't you just tell me if you're happy or not?" I asked knowing I sounded pathetic.
The milk chocolate woman he was with was not only beautiful, but there seemed to be a light in his eye that I hadn't seen in a long time and I snapped when I realized that another woman had put it there.
"Dee, this is not the time or the place so just come on." He said pulling me back inside of La Puerta by my arm.
Earlier while with my citizenship students I was having a great time until I saw Christian out on the floor dancing and holding another woman the way he used to hold me! I don't know why I had to confront them, but I had to.
I thought Christian seeing me would make him stop, would make him want to take the other woman home but he did neither. Instead, he continued dancing with her as if he didn't have a care in the world.
My students were eating, laughing, dancing and enjoying themselves, celebrating the fact that their hard work had paid off and they were going to receive their citizenship from the US. After seeing Christian I tried to enjoy the rest of my night but I began to drain margaritas like they were water.
I wanted to say more, I wanted to apologize to him, I wanted to bare my soul to him, but he was acting so cold towards me. When we neared the table full of my students of mixed backgrounds, it was then I realized that most of them were drunk too.
"Who is the designated driver?" Christian asked looking between me and them and I began to point out who was riding with who. As if he didn't approve of my choice of drivers he shook his head in frustration. "Dee, stay here I'm gonna go drop Shannon off and then I'm coming back to drop you off at home."
"I can call an uber, I don't need you to take me home." I told him defensively.
I wasn't that pathetic.
"I'm not going to let you take an uber home, not like this," he pointed down at me.
"Why don't you go run off to lil Shannon," I mocked with a wave of my hand already hating her.
"Dee..." his words trailed off, he acted as if he wanted to go off on me but couldn't find the words. "I'll be right back, just stay here."
I rolled my eyes and sat back down in my chair and started sipping on the fresh margarita someone had ordered for me.
"Damnit Dee!" I heard from over my shoulder and Christian was taking the drink from me. "That's enough! No more drinks!"
I looked at him like he was crazy, it was my body I could drink and do what I wanted. I watched as he walked towards the exit. I looked down at my phone and saw that I had a new message from Odell.
Dell: 2:29AM: Just finished going over my playbook for the last time about to call it a night. Talk to you in the morning.
I didn't know what was going on with him. He claimed that he remained focused around this time of the season so I was trying to trust that was all it was.
