"Girl, I don't know what you've done but you look sooooooo good." Chanel told me while sitting across from me. "You're like a completely different woman! I mean you are still you, but you're...different."
Chanel was in L.A. to promote a new movie that she was in and I took the short flight to attend the screening with her. It had been a fun night and I was glad we were getting the chance to spend time together.
We were now having a good old fashioned slumber party in the suite of her hotel. We had grown close during my single time, talking on the phone and keeping up with each other's lives. She had become a close friend in a short amount of time.
"Chanel, I honestly feel like a different woman." I said crossing my legs.
"I need to take my ass down there to that retreat if it does all that."
"It wasn't the retreat necessarily, it was me doing the work...fixing myself." I told her.
What a difference two months can make! In that amount of time I had taken my mom's advice and fallen completely in love with myself.
I took a portion of the money from my savings and began to go to the wellness retreat that Odell had taken me to. Being there without him was an even more enlightening experience.
I attended different workshops, sessions, painted, made pottery and jewelry, did yoga and Pilates, went hiking, exercised, swam, sat by the ocean, picked organic foods, attended cooking classes and just connected with myself without any other distractions.
"Girl, you even cut off all your hair," she flicked at my natural curls, "I love it. It fits this whole new energy of yours, too."
"I'll grow it back eventually, I just wanted something different to match how I'm feeling."
"I wonder what O will think?"
"Whether he likes it or not, this is me..." I told her meaning the words.
In the past two months Odell and I spoke, our conversations were short with us both only checking on each other. I didn't want to know what he was doing or who he was seeing and I didn't want social media to hold me captive anymore so I deleted everything. I would get back on it eventually but in the meantime I was enjoying freedom from it all.
"Well, I guess he likes it because he just liked my picture on IG of the two of us on the red carpet." She showed me the picture and I gave her a small smile.
"How is he?" I asked her.
One thing I learned about Odell from our many talks is that when he was in his most pain is when he would act out. He would party harder and do the most outlandish things for attention. I didn't think he was sitting around waiting on me, but I did know that the Giants season had not turned out like he had hoped. They lost to the Falcons in the NFC Championship game coming one game short of making it to the Super Bowl.
I knew how much that had to hurt him and I sent him a text to let him know that they would definitely make it that next year. He didn't feel so sure with Eli's pending retirement and not having a quality quarterback to follow in his steps.
