Hey guys!! This is my first story so i hope you enjoy it i'm not sure how invested in this i will be, but who knows?
Quinn pov.
I groaned as the sound of gravel crackling underneath the truck's tires woke me up. I looked at the clock on the dashboard of the truck with sleep clouded eyes. It took a while for my eyes to get used to the darkness before i could see anything. 5:32 am. I dropped my head back into the seat and pulled my pile of blankets back over me, wishing for the blankets to swallow me and take me away from my responsibilities .
"Q" My trainer Samantha said in a teacher like tone as she turned the truck off, ceasing the engine's animalistic roaring. Samantha or "Sam" as i liked to call her was my riding instructor but also a mother figure for me. I was an orphan and my foster parents didn't care about me or what i did so Sam decided to take me in when started riding at age 6. She treated me like a daughter, having no children or husband her own. Most of the time she would let me spend the night at her house when i stayed out late at the barn and took me to school the next day.
"Come on we have a lot of work to do" Sam reminded me while pulling the blankets off of my face. I groaned in response but I knew it was true, we had to unload our 5 horses, get them settled in their temporary stalls, fill water buckets, unwrap standing wraps, feed hay, and after all that i had to school ALL of our horses before 8 am when all of the sane people arrived with their horses. Being who she is Sam insisted on getting here extremely early even though the actual show was tomorrow. Sam turned on the car's dome light making me squint. She hopped out of the truck with a sigh and headed towards the trailer.
I had to talk myself into getting up and following her. The frigged morning air caught me off guard, I quickly pulled on my green "Hunters Do It Better" sweatshirt that my friend and IEA teammate, Marley, made for me. Marley was the youngest member on our team, being only a freshman, and was definitely the quirkiest out of all of us. She was extremely girly and makeup and fashion obsessed. She didn't look like much at first glance but put her on a horse and her personality completely changed. Marley was a tough cookie and could out-ride some of the seniors, even if she wore sequin breeches.
Loud thumping, whinnies and a cursing Samantha brought me back to reality. I knew exactly what was happening as i walked to the back of the trailer. My horse, Angel, was running circles around Sam, snorting and kicking all the while. This was a familiar sight. Angel didn't trust anyone but me and often acted up when someone else handled her. This was the reason Sam suggested taking her to IEA shows to get her used to having to deal with other people. I had been working on getting her exposed to other people and she usually wasn't this bad but today she was not having any of it. Angel was a present for my 14th birthday, she was 3 years old at the time and had already been abused and beaten, this was the cause of her aggression and lack of trust. Two years in and she still was crazy but had an extreme soft spot for me, even if our bond was unbreakable it didn't stop me from putting her back in her place when necessary.
"SON OF A BITCH" Sam cursed as Angel reared, striking with her front feet and almost hitting her. I growled low and deep, immediately gaining Angel's attention. She knew what that noise meant and immediately backed down. Not wasting any time i grabbed her lead rope and started backing her up, making her turn on the haunch and lunged her until she licked and chewed with her head down. It must have been an odd sight seeing a very short girl dominating a 17.1 hand horse. I gave Samantha her lead rope again. Angel flipped her ears back but gave her respect.
Hopefully i can get her attitude under control before tomorrow I thought. if not, it will be a very interesting Saturday.
Sorry that this was so short and was mostly exposition but i just wanted to get something out for now. Hope you enjoyed please vote and comment!!! 😘😘😘
