"I just texted Mia letting her know I'm about to head out." I say as right as I hit the word 'send' on my phone's screen.
Matty doesn't say anything, and I can tell he doesn't exactly know what to do.
"I guess that's my cue to go." I add.
He stands from his position on my bed and takes a few slow strides closer to me. His eyes meet mine and I give him a small smile. He takes the oppurtunity to tuck my hair behind my ear. The simple gesture makes my insides warm and my skin tingle where his touch still lingers.
"Don't have too much fun without me." He remarks in a low tone.
His head dips down lower to reach my own, and his lips brush lightly against mine. He grabs my face, hands holding either of my cheeks. I move closer in an attempt to close the space between us, but his hold permits me from doing so. A smile creeps up on his lips at my struggle. He doesn't wait long, connecting his lips with mine, giving me the pang of electricity I desired. The kiss isn't long but in the moment it feels like forever. As if I am getting a glimpse of the eternity I'll spend with this boy.
"I love you." I let the words slip as we both pull back from the loving kiss.
"I love you." He returns. "Now get going, before you're late."
With that, I separate myself from his touch, quickly grabbing my purse and heading out. I instantly spot the Uber I called earlier, and hop in with confidence.
"Where to ma'am?" The deep voice behind the wheel asks politely.
"Um," I try to remember the name of the place Mia texted me. "That one bar in town, I think it's called Rasco's?"
"Sure thing." He nods as the car begins to move.
I rest my head back against the headrest and look out the window, watching as the scenery passes by in a blur. I close my eyes a bit and let my mind loose. I'm currently living arguably the worst chapter of my life yet the most amazing one at the same time, I can't help thinking to myself. I just found out I have an incurable disease that could possibly kill me. The thought of death sitting beneath my skin for all this time sends my into a downward depressing spiral. But the moment the thought of Matty comes to mind, I'm immediately lifted. Something about him makes me forget about everything. Everything clouding my mind and blocking my path of happiness instantly vanishes the second Matty is near. Something in me yearns to be with him every second possible.
"Ma'am?" The deep voice from before pulls me from my thoughts. My eyes open and I look out the window to find the familiar bar in front of me. The bar Matty took me on our first 'date'.
"We're here" his voice cuts through the quiet car again.
"Um, how much do I owe you?" My hand goes to my purse
"$7.50 please" his politeness is a breath of fresh air in comparisons to Matty's usual inappropriate words.
I pull out my wallet and rummage through it for the correct bills. I quickly spot a ten and a five dollar bill and hand it to the driver.
"Here's double. If you don't mind I'll need a ride back. I'll call you."
He nods, taking the cash without issue.
I gather my things and hop out of the vehicle with ease, closing the door with a thud. My heels click on the pavement in a steady rhythm as I make my way inside. Upon entering I immediately spot Mia amongst a sea of others. The place looks surprisingly different than the last time I had visited. More people were on the floor dancing and drinking to the music as opposed to sitting and dining as Matty and I did.
"Maggie!!" Mia attacks me with a death gripping hug. My breath is knocked from my lips with an 'oof' and I wheeze a bit at her tight hold.
"Mia, hey, your killing me a little." A pang of sadness spreads in my chest as my own words turn against me.
Mia lets go of my frame, but not all the way, letting her hands rest on me to support her own weight.
"Um, Mia? You alright there?" I question with concern.
"Yea yea, sorry I might've had a few drinks while waiting for you." She looks like her usual self, but when she speaks her words are a tad faster and run together.
"C'mon let's get you some drinks!" She yells over the change of music pounding our ears.
I try my best to follow her closely till we reach the bar, with people scattered all around it.
"Four shots please. Tequila." Mia orders without my approval.
The bartender is quick with his job, pouring liquid evil into the tiny glasses and serving them up with ease. Mia pushes one in my direction and my eyes watch it intently as if it'll attack me any second.
"C'mon. On three." Mia's words meet my ears. "One," my hand reaches for the small glass. "Two," I try not to think about why I shouldn't drink this. "Three!" The glass is on my lips in that instant and the burning liquid leaves a trail of fire down my throat. My eyes screw shut as I endure the foul taste.
"Woo!" I shake the burn from my body.
"One more girl!" Another glass is slid my way. I don't hesitate, taking the fire head on. A light buzz washes over me not long after.
Once again Mia takes the lead, making a move towards the dancing crowd as barley audible words leaves her mouth.
"C'mon girl let's dance!"
