I thought we were okay. But I was wrong?
We checked out of the resort early in the morning and I drove us back to manila. Good thing Mika didn't bring her car since she went with her family.
You know what I realized? For a volleyball player who should have been used to waking up early for practices, Mika was not an early bird. She slept throughout the ride back to her condo. It was alright with me though. I liked the feeling that she was comfortable enough around me to sleep unguarded. She looked so peaceful while sleeping.
When we arrived at her condo, she invited me to her unit because she said she wanted to discuss something. When we got in, Mika told me to make myself feel at home as she went and got her computer.
I turned on the television and flip through the channels. Mika sat beside me with her computer and her phone connected to it and a flashdrive. I was curious but I let her be.
"Done," she said as she closed her comp and put it back on the bedroom.
She came out holding a small box on one hand and the USB on another. I looked at her curiously. She settled beside me and faced me again. I faced her too.
"Okay. Andito sa USB na 'to ang nag-iisang copy ng recording noong sa inyo ni Den sa restaurant. Wala na sa phone ko. Wala na sa email."
I raised my brows in surprise. I actually have almost forgotten that she had that. I have stopped feeling blackmailed since a while back.
She put the USB on the box and continued.
"Since we agreed to spend the next two months together, I won't be using this against you anymore. But I will still keep it here. Then after that, I'll give it to you. Okay?"
I shrugged. The recording seemed unimportant now.
She rolled her eyes. "Basta 'yun na 'yun, ah."
She stood up and put the box on top of the table under the TV on the wall.
"So what's next?" I asked when Mika plopped down beside me again.
"Wala ka bang lakad?" she asked.
I thought about it. I remembered I had to go to Ally's to look over some important matters so I told her that.
"Ako rin may lakad kasama ibang mga kaibigan ko, eh. So kita na lang tayo bukas?"
I agreed, already feeling excited to spend tomorrow with her.
After eating lunch, she accompanied back to my car to see me off.
I rolled down my window to say goodbye.
"Ingat ka, Ly, ah. Text mo ako kapag nakauwi ka na."
There was something in that statement that made me frown.
"Bye!" Then she walked back towards her building.
I cursed. I knew why something felt wrong.
First, she called me 'Ly' not 'Babe'. Second, she did not kiss me goodbye again.

She kept calling me 'Ly'.
Early in the morning, I already got a text from her.
From: Mika
Good morning, Ly! See you after lunch?
There it was again. Ly. I have always loved my name but her calling me Ly seemed too casual, too detached. I already got used to her calling me 'Babe' that this whole 'Ly' thing was throwing me off. But maybe it was just because it was a text. I was so sure she would call me 'Babe' again when I saw her.
