"May susi ka sa condo ng anak ko?"
Mika's mom suddenly looked a hell lot scarier than the warm, smiling woman I met two days ago.
"Babe?"
One word and Tito seemed like he would burn me alive.
"Oh, bakit ang tahimik niyo?"
I don't know if I should have been thankful that Mika saved me from answering or what. But when she saw me and the keys in my hand and assessed the whole situation, there was panic in her eyes. I got more nervous.
"A-Alyssa," she whispered as she stepped towards me.
Just as she reached me, her father spoke in an authoritative manner that scared the shit out of me.
"Naglilive in na ba kayong dalawa?" her father asked dangerously.
I shook my head vigorously like my life depended on it. It probably did.
"Pa, hindi po!" Mika answered loudly.
"Sigurado ba kayo?" her Mom asked in a way that made me want to cower. "Kasi sigurado naman akong hindi Valdez ang apelyido mo, Mika Aereen, at wala akong anak na pinag-aral sa Ateneo pero ang daming ganoong damit sa damitan mo."
I seriously wanted the floor to open up and swallow me right then and there. I was freaking scared.
"Madalas ko lang pong pinagssleep over si Ly dito, Ma, Pa. Kasi mas malapit 'to sa training nila kesa sa condo niya," Mika explained.
"Alyssa," Mika's father's voice boomed again. "Mag-usap tayo sa labas."
I nodded meekly, willing my feet to move forward. Mika held my arm though.
"Pa, bakit sa labas pa. Dito na lang. Kasali ako."
"Mika Aereen, kami lang ng karelasyon mo ang mag-uusap. Sisiguraduhin kong paninindigan ka niya."
My eyes widened and so did Mika's before she sputtered things that totally made things worse.
"Pa, wala namang nangyayari samin ni Ly! And as if namang may mabubuntis samin kung meron man." She mumbled the last part but I heard it clearly. I'm pretty sure her mom and dad did too. I felt like fainting. "Pero wala! Wala p-"
I took Mika's hand and squeezed it.
"I love you but stop talking please," I blurted out.
I blushed when I realized I had confessed my love for her in front of her family in a very unromantic way. Crap.
The kids whom I've already forgotten that were there snickered and Mika glared at them while I had to bow my head down because seriously, I'm messing up big time. I was pretty sure that conversation was not suitable for kids.
"Alyssa, sumunod ka sakin."
Just like that, our attention was back to Mika's father and I had no choice but to follow him to the balcony. I squeezed Mika's hand before that and gave her a reassuring smile, the best that I could muster despite my fears. She smiled back with worry.
I took a deep breath before facing Mika's father once we were outside in the balcony.
"T-Tito, I-I m-mean S-Sir, I-"
"Huminga ka, Ineng. At Tito pa rin itawag mo sakin. Wag kang mag-alala, hindi ikaw ang pinapakaba namin. Si Yeye," he said it sternly but I could see the twinkle in his eyes.
