Things Change

Chapter 16: Uh oh.

" I saw Jace today." Cole says.

I know I paled but I'm not going to show weakness with all the crack heads and dealers around me. Clover taught me better than that.

"And?" I ask just to make sure that my voice didn't crack one bit.

"Look we can't really talk about this right now so let's head to your house. Okay ?" He says.

I look over Clover as of asking is it safe. She nods and I look over to Cole.

"Meet me at my house in five minutes no later no sooner. See you there Cole." And with that me and Clover get inside the car and reave the engine to the other side of town, my house.

Exactly five minutes later we are all in my house living room.

"Soo...." Cole says trying to break the dreadfully long awkward silence.

"Get to it what do you want to know?" I ask. I really don't mean to be a bitch but Luther needs to eat right about this time.

"Um... see.. the thing is...uh.." he mumbles.

"Would you spit it out?!" I say frustrated.

He inhales and ten seconds go by. He probably does the whole one Mississippi two Mississippi thing.

"Jace told me you'd explain everything." He says in all seriousness.

"Alright then. Let's start from-" Luther come up from behind the sofa and sits on my lap.

"What's wrong Luther?" I say in my sweet voice. He's my cat. But he's all I've got.

He rolls over on his back and wiggles in my lap causing me to giggle. I know he only does this when he's hungry.

"Okay sweetheart. Let's go." I say to Luther. "Look I'm going to go feed him I'll be right back." I say. It scares me sometimes how I can just change from attitude one to another.

I put Luther down in my lap in the living room once he was finished devouring his meal. Not even three minutes and this cat was done. Anyway there waited a very impatient Clover and I very weird looking Cole.

"What?" I ask looking at both of then.

"Babe it's 10 you know what that means." Clover says getting up.

"Oh right just take this with you. it'll explain everything you need to know love." I say handing her the letter I keep in between the sofa.

"Kk bye." she says running out the door.

"Bye." I smile and wave. "Alright so here's what's happening." I go on to explain everything from Jace leaving to the fighting to parents to Oscars bitch ass to Luther and even Nicole.

He says absolutely nothing. For a second I think he's not breathing. That would be quite the predicament wouldn't it ?

"Uh Cole..?" I question holding on Luther teddy bear style.

"I thought I had a shitty life." He says in one final breath.

I do nothing but laugh. And laugh and laugh. Until he pulls me and Luther into a hug. A soft warm hug that reminded me of mother before she turned sour.

"Why are you hugging me?" I question feeling skeptical about the whole situation.

He just hugs me tighter and whispers in my ear a very faint....

"It's going to be okay."

I'm not sure if he expected me to cry of to have a full blown melt down, something along those lines, but I knew that not what Jace would have wanted.
