Valerie's POV
When I storm out of the class room I head for the gates, just wanting to get away.
"Hey , you! Stop right there!!" The male voice yells.
Fuck that.
I starts sprinting. My body aching like a bitch but I keep pushing not wanting to be sent to the office.
"Stop!!!" He yells as soon as I'm out the front door. I jog until I'm off the block and start lazily walking back to my house.
I keep thinking on how I'm going to make ends meet. I have no money, no family, and no life. What am I going to do ?!
"Ugh!!" I grunt aloud.
I step foot in my house since I forgot to lock it on my way out to school. I see ,once I walk in, the envelopes on the ground from the mail shoot.
"Okay. What do we got?" I ask picking them up.
I go through each one and see that there all bills. Since the house is paid off I don't need to worry about that but I have the water, light, gas, phone, and on top of that necessities.
"Oh no." I mumble when I see that the light bill is 86.98. That's about all the money I have saved up. It's due tomorrow unless I want late fees. Which I really, really don't.
I'll I want to do is burst into tears. This is it. I'm going under.
"... It's half a grand pay..."
It doesn't sound so bad now does it, my brain said.
Ugh! I really don't want to be involved in that life. It's not a good one to be in.
But you need the money, my mind says.
She's right. This need to be done and I need to be strong about this. There is no way around this.
I get phone from my school bag and go upstairs. I find the dirty basketball shorts and pull out Clover's card. I dial the number and all I need to do is press the little one inch call icon.
And I do.
*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*
"Hello this is Clover speaking." And I could just feel her smiling on the other side.
"Hey Clover. It's me. The girl you saw at the gym." I said while gnawing on my nails.
"Hey..." I don't think I ever told her my name.
"Valerie."
"Hey Valerie. So you up for it?" She asks.
"Yeah. I want two fights." I tell her. That's a grand pay. If I win.
"Sure sweetheart. Wensd-" I cut her off. I need the money today.
"Tonight." I find myself saying before I could even think.
She snickers a little over the phone. "About time. Meet me up at the old candle factory's parking lot at 9:13 no later no earlier. Sports bra and basketball shorts. We do bear fist. See you then."
That factory's all the way on the other side of town and I'm so tired just thinking about the fact I'm going to need to walk there.
What needs to be done.
