"This is so beautiful, Derik," Adri gawked as she looked around the scenery of her best friend's engagement party. Derik had been Adri's best friend since college, and seeing him grow into the mature, engaged man that he was now really made her happy. Although being Devin Booker's younger brother, Adri never created the friendship between Derik and her because of his brother— she didn't even know who his brother was until he spelled it out for her.
"Thanks, Adri," Derik smiled, pulling his best friend into a side hug as he walked around to the cake table while the rest of the guest in the building continued to mingle. Looking to his left, Derik spotted his mother and father, along with his older brother, walking into the venue. Looking back down at Adri with an even brighter smile upon his face, he whispered into her ear, "I guess this is the time where you get to meet my folks, as well as my adored older sibling."
Looking up from the red velvet flavored cake shaped and decorated as a wedding dress next to a tuxedo, Adri looked up to see Derik's family standing in the doorway, looking around and finally catching the sight of their younger son and brother.
"You have a beautiful family. Is it bad to say that I'm nervous?"
"Not at all; let's go kill the nerves; shall we?"
Leading Adri to his family, she could feel the overwhelming affection of love. In fact, she always felt this feeling when she was around Derik and his fiancé, Maeci, or just Derik himself. He grew up around such loving people, and that positive energy was felt everywhere by everyone; Adri just felt that it was so beautiful.
"Hey mom, hey dad," Derik said, bending down to give his mom a big hug, for he was 6'4 while she was only 5'5, then giving his dad a man hug after the fact. Clearing his throat sarcastically, the man Adri presumed to be Derik's brother, Devin, opened his arms up wide for a hug as well. Laughing, Derik hugged his big brother as Devin patted him on the back.
"It's good to see you again, youngin'," Devin smirked, ending the hug between him and Derik. "I'm not that young," Derik sighed, rolling his eyes slightly as he smiled softly, turning his head to face Adri, who was standing beside him, taking in the moment that was transpiring in front of her.
"Oh, excuse me, mom, dad, Devin, this is my best friend, Adri. Adri, this is my mom, Veronica, my dad, Melvin, and, of course, my brother, Devin," Derik stated, watching Adri smile even more at his loved ones' names.
"It's so nice to meet you all," Adri said politely, extending her hand to shake their hands. Veronica looked down at Adri's hand, and back up at her, causing Adri to frown slightly. Was it something she did? Did Derik's mom not like her?
"Honey, we don't do handshakes; we do hugs," Veronica smiled, opening her arms and bringing Adri's body close to hers, embracing her tightly. Automatically feeling her smile grow back upon her face, Adri hugged Veronica back. "That's so sweet!" Adri giggled, letting Veronica go as she went to hug Melvin, who welcomed into his embrace with open arms as well. After hugging Derik's parents, Adri came face to face with Devin, causing her heart to skip a beat.
'Derik never told me how good lucking his brother was.. Why would he tell me? That's a really stupid question,' Adri thought to herself, making faces as she continued to zone out, staring at Devin's face. As Devin rose an eyebrow slowly, Derik chuckled nervously at his family as they all looked at Adri in a concerned fashion. Derik nudged Adri softly, snapping her out of her trance. "Uh, sorry, sorry. I was just.. Thinking about something," Adri chuckled slightly, sticking out her hand so Devin could shake it.
