"Alright boys; practice is over. Rest up, and I'll see you tomorrow," Elle's mother, Becky Hammon, called out. As the men walked off the basketball court, Becky turned to her daughter with an emotionless face, "Make sure you have all your stuff together. By the time I get back, you should be ready, and we can head back home." "Yes ma'am," Elle mumbled, twirling her hair around her index finger.

Becky turned on her heel and started walking towards some of the teammates of the San Antonio Spurs, leaving Elle to do as she was instructed. Being Becky Hammon's daughter wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Rarely ever getting to see your mom because of her busy schedule, constantly having to tag along to team practices scheduled early in the morning until late in the afternoon, and worst of all, not being able to socialize with any of the team members made it hard for Elle to embrace her lifestyle. With her mother's strict rules, it was only a matter of time before Elle decided to rebel, and boy, did she rebel in the worst way possible.

"Sta' deal, ma?" the voice that belonged to no other than Dejounte Murray whispered towards Elle as he walked over to her. Looking up from her Michael Kors backpack and standing up on the bleachers so her height could match his, Elle smiled widely as she glanced over at her mother to make sure her back was facing them, embracing Dejounte snuggly. "Hey, baby, you did such a great job today," Elle rejoiced, giving Dejounte a soft peck on the cheek.

Letting out a deep chuckle, Dejounte wrapped his arms around Elle's waist, "Thanks, princess, I appreciate it. I was actually thinkin' about taking you out to dinner tonight.. If that's coo' with you."

"You mean if I can get out the house without my mom questioning my whereabouts?" Elle chuckled, holding onto Dejounte's shoulders. "Yeah, exactly," Dejounte stated, "I don't want you getting in trouble, and I don't want to be benched for the rest of the season, so."

Dejounte was honestly nervous about Becky finding out about her daughter and his secret relationship. Not only was Becky strict on her rules on the court, but her daughter was her pride and joy; she was very overprotective of her, for she didn't want Elle to be hurt— physically or emotionally.

"What's going on here."

Elle's eyes widened as she slightly shoved Dejounte off of her, fixing her shirt as Dejounte scooted away from Elle, putting his hands behind his back. "N-nothing coach. I was just—"

"I thought I made it clear that I didn't want any of you speaking to my daughter," Becky scowled, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "I-I know, coach, I was just ask—." Dejounte was cut off by Becky's hand raising up to stop him from speaking.

"No excuses."

Turning her attention towards her daughter, she took Elle's wrist and pulled her down from the bleachers, "We're leaving, and you're not coming back. I'll just have Lillian look after you while I'm away at practices." Elle's jaw dropped as she listened to the words coming out of her mother's mouth. Not coming back? Hell no.

"That's not fair!" Elle yelled out, causing Becky to gasp and let go of her wrist, "I'm nineteen years old, mom; stop treating me like I'm some child! Your rules are ridiculous— ridiculous to the point where I don't even want to be under the same roof as you anymore! I can't have a social life, I can't go out to mingle with people, I can't even have a damn boyfriend!"

Dejounte's eyes widened as he watched Elle and Becky exchange words. Out of all the frustrating times Elle has spoken to him about, he finally got to see how hard Becky's rules have been taking a toll on Elle. It saddened him to see his girlfriend so upset.

"Can you please just give me some space!" Elle cried out desperately, at the verge of tears. Grabbing Dejounte's hand, Elle grabbed her backpack and started walking towards the exit of the gym, "I'm going out to dinner with my boyfriend and he'll drop me back off home when I'm ready to be back."

As Becky watched her daughter walk off with Dejounte, her heart sank. She didn't know her daughter felt this way because she truly thought she was doing what was best for her. Upsetting someone who she loved with everything in her only made her upset with herself, and she knew she had to do something to make it up to Elle. Grabbing all of her belongings, Becky walked out of the, now, empty gym, thinking of ways to win her daughter over.

"Thanks for taking me out to dinner, babe, I really needed it," Elle sighed, running her fingers through her hair as she looked out the window of Dejounte's Challenger, looking at the different lights that lit up the Texas sky. "Hey, it's no problem, baby. I'm sorry that you had such a rough day," Dejounte sympathized, rubbing Elle's thigh softly with his free hand.

Pulling up into the Hammon's driveway, Dejounte parked his car and got out, helping Elle out of her seat. Elle couldn't help but think what her mother would say once she walked in the door with Dejounte; her mother was an intimidating woman when it came to her, and she didn't feel like arguing with her mother again. Once Elle and Dejounte made it to the front door of the house, they noticed Becky standing in the doorway with the door in her hand.

"I've been waiting for you two. Come in, please."

Looking at Dejounte, Elle took his hand into hers, giving it a slight squeeze as she walked into the house with him. Closing the door behind the couple, Becky looked at her daughter and Dejounte; she had to admit that they were a cute couple. She saw the way Dejounte would glance over at Elle during practices, and it seemed like they were truly happy together.

"I wanted to apologize to you both for my attitude earlier today; I realize that you both are adults, and that my rules have been out of pocket. I just want the best for my daughter, and I was afraid to let her blossom because I didn't want to see her hurt. Can you both forgive me?" Becky asked sincerely.

Smiling softly, Elle let go of Dejounte's hand and made her way to her mother, giving her a tight hug, "Of course we forgive you, mama. I love you."

"I love you too, baby," Becky smiled as she hugged her daughter back, looking up at a beaming Dejounte, "Now that you're apart of the family, you have to try my crab linguini alfredo. It's to die for."

"Sounds great, co—"

"Please, call me Becky."

"Sounds great, Becky," Dejounte stated, "But can we take a rain check? I'm really full right now."

As the laughs of the three individuals filled the house, they all made their way into the living room to sit down and converse as a whole.

i hope you enjoyed it, elle!
