In the multi-media, there is the picture Joey gets from his Secret Santa!
Chapter 27
"Are you sure about this?" I ask Dylan as we enter the pub about fifteen minutes before nine. I wanted to be there early so as not to get stuck in the crowds. The place is thankfully, very empty, and we'll all fit if we move all the tables and such. It's a nice little pub with T.V's on mute with captions and sports and some bar tenders at the bar, keeping an eye on the people nursing their beers. Dylan stops at the bar and orders us two beers before answering me.
"Yes, Alex, I promise she'll love it," Dylan replies and hands me my beer. I smirk at him. "What?" He asks me as we take a seat at the bar. We smile at the people tending and they move on with cleaning some glasses.
"It's just that you were so willing to help me with this present for...your girlfriend." I somehow choke that last part out, and I try to hide the wincing pain when saying it. I look again at the gift wrapped bag I got for Denise with her name on it.
"Well yeah, she's my girlfriend, but you're my best friend. And the fact that you're so cool with trying to find her an amazing present is awesome of you."
I feel a sense of pride and a rush of admiration when Dylan calls me his best friend, and that makes me genuinely smile at him.
"Well thank you for helping me," I tell him, leaning over and giving him a hug. And it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, and I love it."
"Oh, of course!" Dylan seems a little surprised by my hug, but accepts it anyways.
"Hey, I'm gonna head to the bathroom, I'll be back in a minute," Dylan says suddenly and gets up.
"Everything okay?" I ask him as he moves quickly.
"Yeah, I'm fine...Be back soon."
Dylan weaves his way through the narrow tables and past the bar into the back to the bathroom. I watch him go, and then turn back to my beer.
What the hell was that about?
I try not to let it bother me as I drink my beer and watch the TV captions flash, trying to follow the sports games that I honestly couldn't care about.
"Alex, hey!" A voice draws me away from the T.V in the direction of the door. Beredith walks in, holding hands as usual and holding a gift bag on the other hands. I smile at them and grab my beer. "Wanted to get here early and try to guess who you have?" Meredith teases.
"Oh yes, I was really hoping someone would get me a puppy!" I say with mock sincerity.
"Puppy, puppy, puppy!" I hear someone behind Beredith say. Who but Joey is standing there, smiling.
"Hey, Alex," he says, coming over to give me a hug.
"Did you work out the Emma/Nicki thing?" I ask him quietly.
"I think so. Thanks for your advice by the way, it was really appreciated." Then he hands me a small wrapped box.
"What's this?" I ask him.
"I'm going home right after I get back from LA, and I won't be able to get back here till New Years Eve. So I wanted to give you your gift now," He tells me. The box is small and is painted with a beautiful silver cover. A bow rests on top of it, shimmering. I smile as I examine the box, then take the cover off. Inside, a silver bracelet rests, with little fake diamond looking jewels attached, and a silver clasp. I gasp at beautiful present.
"Joey," I say, breath taken.
"Lift the bracelet out and look under the white holster," He tells me. He grabs my beer from the counter and ushers me to the seats where Meredith and Brian are deep in conversation with Dylan, who had returned from the bathroom. I didn't even notice until I looked up.
