Chapter 52
I wake up with major pain in my back, staring up at a ceiling. But it takes me a moment to remember it's not my ceiling I'm staring up at.
I turn my head to the right, and sure enough, there's a couch sitting there. I look up and see Dylan no longer asleep on it. I sit up, feeling the blanket that had been on me fall away.
"That's funny," I think to myself. "I didn't put a blanket on last night."
I look around, no sign of Dylan in this room. My phone is lying next to me on the floor with ten percent battery and a bunch of texts waiting for me. I unlock my phone and check the texts.
Lauren: Did you get Dylan home okay?
Clark: Can't wait to see you later.
Nick Lang: Need you ASAP.
Unknown Number: Alex it's Robert, I got your number from Walker and Lauren. Please text me when you can.
Walker: Gave Robert your number, said he needed to talk to you.
Nicki: So Clark asked if you guys and me and Joey wanna go to dinner together tonight? Let me know.
Nick Struass: Thanks for last night, truly surprised. Had a lot of fun :)
I look at all the texts and just wonder why every time I don't check my phone for more than five hours I miss a shit ton of texts from Starkids. Again, they just don't care about their data.
I decide to text the more urgent messages
Alex: Hey Lauren, yeah, he got home fine, he was fast asleep last time I saw him.
Then I text Nick Lang
Alex: How soon is soon? Just woke up.
Next is Robert.
Alex: Here's when I can text, what's up, everything okay?
Then Nicki.
Alex: I'll call you later about it, but sounds like a plan.
Finally scattered texts to the rest of the group.
I lock my phone to conserve what little battery power I have left, get up and stretch. I'm still in my dress from the party, my shoes lying next to my feet and my purse on the coffee table next to me. But I look around the little dingy apartment and don't see a single sign of Dylan. I stand, stretch again and grab my shoes. I look like the fucking walk of shame right now.
I go to the mirror hanging on the back of Dylan's front and look at my reflection. My waves are gone, replaced with my hair normally straight, but perfectly fine. No tangles, no nothing. My dress looks a bit ruffled, but other than that I look completely fine.
I check my phone again, realizing I never saw what time it was.
10AM.
Fuck! I have shit to get done today and Dylan lives half an hour from me!
I grab my purse and go to open the door when I hear a noise.
"Alex?"
I turn around, Dylan standing there in a towel, another one in his hand rubbing his damp hair.
"Good to know you're up, want breakfast, maybe some coffee?"
I shake my head, trying to keep my eyes on the top half of Dylan's body. But that doesn't do much help, seeing his six pack pop now and water dripping down his chest in slow motion like on TV. "Um...no, I have to get to the Lang's place. Nick umm, he needs me for something."
