We were not alone.
But how was I to say that to Jake?
I placed my cup on the coaster by the table near the window.
"You're mad..." I started to say but was cut off
"Is it sad that I knew you were to do something like this?" He asked
"I thought if I made you happy then it would take away the pain of events that have occurred" he added
"I am happy... but I'm also wounded in a battle that I barely crawled out of" I whispered
"I am crawling with whats left of me and trying to fix a puzzle missing over half its pieces"
"I am a wounded soldier with half a lung left but breathing like I have three"
"I am happy but along with my happiness I am also ashamed... beaten... and disgusted with myself"
"I dont deserve the right to have survived" I finally added.
"You're right" he said
"You don't deserve the right to have survived... you deserve the right to have lived. Stop just thinking that breathing is living. You need to see that being happy and healthy is living. Being with me and Juliet is living. You are beautiful Courtney and you have taught me so many things in life that I feel like you could write a book. Don't live because I'm telling you its what I want... live because it's what you want" he said squeezing my hand.
"Jake..." I started trying to find a way to transition into another subject.
I looked over at the table near the window noticing my cup was not on the coaster but a foot away from it.
It had been moved.
"....did you move my cup?" I asked staring at the table
He looked at me and gave me the "I've been sitting here the whole time what the fudge do you mean?" look.
"I swear I placed it on that coaster" I finally said.
"Maybe you were just aiming for it but missed" he said
"By that much? I watched my hand place the cup there I know I places it directly on the coaster" i stated scared a bit
"It's okay just calm down" he said patting my back.
"Jake I don't think we are here alone" I said grabbing my cup and walking to the kitchen.
"What are you talking about" I heard him ask over my shoulder as I poured the tea into the sink and watched the undissolved pill slip out of the cup down the drain.
