Lindon S.A 3428
By the upcoming winter that year, I had once again returned to Forlindon. Thranduil had joined me on my return journey because he had been called back to spend more time with his bride. She had been there to greet him. They extended a respectful greeting before she tiptoed, leaning her forehead against his. Thranduil had seemed reluctant to return the gesture but done it anyway because others had been there as well, watching them.
Watching them had made so many emotions inside me churn. I knew what I felt for him were never to come to light, but still, I dared retain the smallest amount of hope that it could change. That it could be me who could greet him like that. The young elleth were a perfect match for him. I couldn't stop admiring her whenever she stood at his side. She was born with the same fineries and comfort as Thranduil. She was destined to become a queen, and it was something I would never be able to.
The kingdom was abnormally silent, bad news had just come of the evil spreading. Three elven rings had been created by Celebrimbor, and when Sauron realized their power, he attempted to corrupt them as he had corrupted the seven rings given to men. The serious atmosphere was heavily laced with sorrow for what undoubtedly would come.
That night, as so many others after I returned, I had once more found refuge in the library, the only place where I would be left on my own. The rumors that were going around about Thranduil and I, had not become lesser after I had fled to Greenwood. Their constant gaze still on me was beginning to become tiresome. Enough so that I had retorted to scowling at them whenever I caught them starring.
I knew others had noticed. My father had his suspicions but had known of our friendship even before the rumors began. I knew he had discarded them as false at first but when they didn't diminish over time, I knew he had his suspicions whether they were true. Thranduil had respected my wishes and remained out of my way, seldom finding me when I was alone. Still, we kept our friendship known, showing others that it was no more than that.
The door opened and dragged me out of my thoughts, only to see that it was Thranduil who had entered the library. I arched a brow when he leant up against the door, a defeated expression as he rested the back of his head against it as well. I arched a brow at his behavior but remained silent while he took more than a few steadying breaths. I chuckled to myself and shook my head, knowing full well that this reaction was the aftermath of being with his father. The king of Greenwood had come earlier this day, because there were a small celebration, honoring his betrothal to Calathiel.
Thranduil was cursing his father under his breath, murmuring more than a few curses, each worse than the prior one. The last made me raise my brow in surprise as he scrubbed his face. I was impressed, this was not often he dared utter his true feelings about his father. Thranduil pushed away from the door with one strong push and closed the distance between us with three large steps. But his were surprisingly insecure, leading me to believe, he might've consumed more wine that he should have done. "Rough night." I chuckled when he collapsed on the couch opposite of me.
