"We need to get off the roof Max!" Yelled Jacks.
"Hold this position, just a little longer!" I yelled back.
"We're surrounded, any longer and we'll be killed!" Jacked insisted.
"Alright let's go!" I yelled.
We ran down the stairs and stopped, hearing voices on the floor beneath us. We looked around quickly and saw a window we could jump through at the other end of the room. We ran to the window and jumped through it. Landing in the building across from us we stood up and smiled at each other. Then suddenly a bullet went through Jacks skull.
I had blinked my eyes and I was back in my bedroom with my heart rushing. Tears ran down my cheeks as I looked around the room. I sighed as I sat on the bed, wiping the tears away. I missed my best friend and I hate to see him die repeatedly in my dreams.
I looked at the clock and it was 3:24am. The chief gave me a day off to relax and clear my mind. But today already seems like I won't be able to clear my mind. I went downstairs and made myself some breakfast.
Time had past and it was 5:36am and I had started getting dressed. I had planned to bring my little girls home today. They are most likely worried about me. I sat on the couch and watched the morning news until 10:00am.
I had walked towards the door when suddenly I opened it and it was a war zone. The hot desert sun as far as I could see and blood spilling into the sand. The sound of gunfire and bullets, I had quickly slammed the door and breathed heavily. My heart raced and I tried to slow my breathing.
What was this, Memories coming back to haunt me? I had finally calmed down and opened the door again. The desert had disappeared and the sunlight and green grass of the yard replaced it. I sighed and walked out the door to my car, starting it up.
I drove to my mothers house to get my girls. She was the only one I had since I was born. My father had walked out on the day of my birth and she was the only one there to take care of me. I stopped the car next to her house and walked to the door.
Then it suddenly started happening again. A flash of light, then it turned into the city in the desert. I could see myself and my team lining up against the wall of the house getting ready to enter. I had watched them enter the building and aim their rifles around the room.
"Max?" Said a faint voice, "Max are you ok?"
The flash of light returned and it had replaced the desert with mothers garden in the front yard. I found myself laying on the sidewalk in front of mothers house. She had ran to me and helped me up off the ground. She looked scared, like I had been shot.
I looked down to see blood where I laid. I could taste it, then I ran my hand across my mouth and looked at it. Blood had covered the back of my hand and all I could do was stare at it. Mother had called for my girls and they ran to her as they looked at me closely with a scared look.
"What happened to daddy?" Said Angeline.
"Run and get some wet rags dear, I'll take care of your father," mother had said.
In a rush, Angeline had ran inside and grabbed a wet rag off of the bathroom sink. Meanwhile I tried to convince mother that I was alright. But in all honesty I was scared myself. I had never had such trouble until now with my memories of the war.
Angeline came back with the wet rag and mother had taken it and began to wipe the blood from my mouth. She was so gentle, mother had always been the gentle type of woman. As long as you didn't get on her bad side. One little lie to her and she never trusted you ever again.
