"What... what do you mean?" Kirstie asked fearfully.

The doctor blinked. "You are the family of Mitchell Grassi... correct?"

Kirstie wailed out. Avi grabbed her as she collapsed, tears running down his face. Kevin sat down, staring blankly ahead. Jonathan just scoffed, walking out.

"Doctor... what happened? I thought he was stable?" Kevin asked, his voice wavering.

"His brain was extremely damaged. I believe that level of damage couldn't be from just the crash, although it certainly didn't help. He would have been suffering for quite a long time to have accumulated all that damage. I'm sorry for your loss, but I strongly believe that he's in a better place now."

Kevin let out a strangled sigh. "What about Scott and Esther?" He asked, scared.

The doctor let out a sad sigh. "Esther is stable, and we have hope that she'll make a full recovery, but Scott is another story. He's barely holding on right now. He was stable, but something happened. We think he might have been conscious when the other male flatlined, and his brain is responding from thinking the flatline was Scott's." He seemed upset to be bearer of so much bad news.

Avi lightened up a little, hearing his sister was doing better, but was crushed at how Scott wasn't.

Everyone seemed to share a thought- Scott wouldn't want to come back to a world without Mitch.

If it came down to it, and they had to chose what to do, it would end in heartbreak either way. If Scott came back without Mitch, he'd be crushed. But if everyone let Scott go, they would all be crushed to have lost them both. Everyone would feel guilty for the rest of their lives about their decision.

"I guess... we just have to see what happens." Kirstie said, sniffling back tears.

A couple hours passed, and the Grassi, Hoying, Kaplan, and Maldonado families filled the waiting room. Everyone was waiting for news, or visiting rights.

But nothing. Dead silence in regards to Scott and Esther.

Everyone remained waiting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Excuse me?  She's stable, why can't I see her? She's my sister!" Avi yelled at the doctor.

"Sir, I'm just following protocol. We need to ensure your presence won't aversely affect her progress." The doctor said, seeming to be very unhappy about creating barriers between family.

"Well, what about Scott? Is he doing any better?" Kevin asked, a calm voice being a huge relief to the doctor.

He shook his head. "While he's not doing any worse, he's certainly not improving either. I'm surprised he's stayed in this state for so long."

With that, the hope of Scott recovering went out the window.

There were voices. That, and the beeping. It was all very strange.

Scott paced around the hospital room, trying to get his bearings.

He had been like this for quite some time now... but sounds were  definitely new. He heard doctors murmuring about him being unstable, crashing, and heard them marvel at how he was still alive.
