Chapter 14: Porthcawl

We kept walking on further along the pathway towards this town. It was dusk when several more paths joined ours forming a wider way as many carts and travelers joined us on our journey. I kept my hand on the hilt of my blade incase anyone got any bright ideas, however no one tried to attack us. They are probably just on their way to the city as well. This has to mean that the rumors are true. I wonder how much further.

Finally as the sun neared the horizon the city came into view. How glorious. The buildings seem to be reaching for the sky. The layout of the town seemed simple enough the tallest buildings being in the center and progressively getting smaller. It truly was a marvelous sight to behold and now I finally understand what all the hype was about.

"When we get there the first think we need to do is rent a place to sleep for the night." I spoke hiding the thrill in my voice of being so close.

"Mhmm, I agree." was the response I got. Then we were right outside of the gates. We slowely made our way through them. Right away I noticed the enormous difference in prosperity. The streets were clean and the houses lined up wonderfully. All around were glasses of various colors and the people of this town were all dressed elegantly besides the various traders wondering around. As it seemed all the Inns are on the outskirts of this outlandish place of wealth. We just went for the first Inn that was passed and bought a room for the night. We made our way up the stairs and locked our room.

"Ugh finally." I said as I sat down resting for the first time in hours. After a few moments of resting I stripped off my weapons and armour. Shorty after I took of my clothes until I was just in my undergarments. Alice did the same and once finished she slowely approached me. She pushed me backwards onto the bed. Crawling on top of me I soon  found her tongue in my mouth. She slowely worked her hands further down my body and once they reached my hips I pushed her off lightly.

"Why are you doing that?" She asked the disappointment obvious and overwhelming.

"Alice this is still so early yet. Just wait longer ok. It can all happen later on, but for now we need to just focus on relaxation. Who knows when the next time we can go out of town will be." I tried to explain, but to no avail.

"That's all the more reason to take advantage of this moment! Can't we please just one time, that is it just once and I will be happy, please?"

"No, and that is the end of the story on that topic." It was much harder for me to say no than for her to be denied. It is all for the greater good though. "Come here let us go to bed now. Then we can get started with everyhting tomorrow."

"Ok." She said climbing into the bed next to me. I snuggled against her and as we drifted off I faintly heard her next few words. "I love you."

"I love you too." Then I was hit with slumber.

We woke up as the sun was still rising though from the wall you could barely tell it was morning. We got dressed in our street clothes and I buckled my belt on my hips and put my swords in their sheathes. We grabbed our pouches of gold and made our way downstairs. I paid for a week for rent and last nights. The wonderful streets were full of life I sat and watched as many moved towards the center of the city. "Let's follow them to see what all the commotion is about."

As the center of the town was reached I found out what almost the fuss was about. There is a huge empty space in the middle of the town set up for merchants, fortune tellers, jewelry, food stalls, in the very center a circle chalked into the ground. Now this is want to see. After a bit of waiting a man walked to the center.

"We are finally ready to proceed in the daily rumbles. Let us get two volunteers to join in for match once." Eventually two men stepped in then the speaker talked more. "Here we have two returning fighters. Boys you know the rules shirts off weapons down. To all watching make your bets now." The men worked off their shirts and handed the shirts plus a few daggers to the speaker. He waddled off to the side setting them down. When he returned he spoke once more. "To anyone new to this there are a few rules. No weapons, no shirts, no one can jump in, and no one can jump out until one is knocked out or dead. Get ready to brawl men best of luck to you both. 3. 2. 1. GO!" That was how the Battle of Bronze got started. Quite a viscous sport, but a nice one. Finally one man delivered a punch with so much force the other fell to the ground stiff. After a few minutes he got up and walked away. "Wow that looked like it hurt. Oh here comes our champion. Domt forget folks anyone who can beat him will win ten-thousand golds worth to spend at Drahto's shop best damn equipment in all of Auzela." As he finished a big burly man stepped up. He had thick muscles and a beard down to his pecks. His shirt was already off showing everyone his abs. He released from deep within a vicious growl sounding very animalistic to match his raw strength. "Does anyone have the nerves to stand up to this man." This is where I decided to act. Walking into the ring I was glad I had brought a small rune with magick in it. Taping into it I used boost then allowed all of the rest to flow into me giving me a feeling of incredible strength. Everyone burst into laughter at Mr for my small frame. It's when I took of my shirt revealing my own muscles that they hushed up a bit. I gave my swords to the announcer as he was still chuckling. "Do you have a death wish."
