no. no, i couldn't have

i gotta rant about something, but first, story time:

on tuesday one of my best friends--let's call her annie--decided that around noon she would go to the school gym to work out instead of staying with the group in our hangout area. she was done for the day (she ditched her one and only class that morning) so she had plenty of time to spare and go work out. i, on the other hand, had an oral exam for my chinese class at 1pm, so i couldn't go with her (and even if i did, i wouldn't go anyway).

anyway, after i came back from my oral exam twenty minutes later, she was still gone and most likely working out. so i chilled in the usual hangout spot with another one of my best friends and watched 'important videos' on youtube with him before he left around 1:40pm to walk his girlfriend (another one of my best friends) back to the hangout spot.

once the couple returned, i said to them, "yo, my dudes. do you want to go to cha for tea (a boba place) right now?"

one of them--let's call her cynthia--was finished for the day and had plenty of time before she was to be picked up by her dad. the other one--we'll call him marcus--didn't have class until 5pm, and the current time then was 2pm. the boba place was only a mile away, so we'd be gone at most an hour.

so cynthia, marcus and i left to go to cha for tea and we decided to bring back the things that we bought to our hangout spot. after a little less than an hour later we return to our hangout place and the couple ate the food they bought while i drank the boba marcus bought for me (he owes me a lot of boba for being his ride home).

another hour went by and annie returned to the hangout spot in workout clothes and she brought over one of her friends (jocelyn). annie then told us how she ended up not working out a whole lot went to hang out with jocelyn instead for the past few hours at another boba place (i don't remember what it's called, so let's call it tea zone) and complained about some random food she bought there that didn't taste good and was not worth the price.

she noticed the things that cynthia, marcus and i got from cha for tea and then asked, "you guys went to cha for tea?"

i answered, "yeah, we did. right after cynthia's class."

and she exclaimed, "what the heck?! you guys went without me?!"

and i said, "well, yeah. you weren't here and i was craving cha for tea. so we went."

and annie went, "why didn't you ask me?! i wanted to go!"

at this point i was confused. "you told me you were working out. i didn't want to bother you while you were working out, so i didn't ask."

"well, you could have asked me anyway!"

no. no, i couldn't have.

annie continued, "i wasn't even doing anything anyway, and if you asked me i would have gone."

realizing that i wasn't going to get anywhere by explaining myself, i said in defeat, "okay, i'm sorry. i'll ask you next time."

although her tone the entire time seemed like she was joking, it was pretty clear to cynthia, marcus and me that she was being serious as well.

now, to rant.

first of all, annie told me that she was going to work out. this implied that she was going to be busy for only god knew how long. second, she told me that she was going to the GYM. THE GYM, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. in a gym you're supposed to be working out to burn calories, so why would i would i ask if she wanted to go to a boba place where she'd be doing the opposite of what she wanted? finally, why was it that i HAVE to ask her if she wanted to come knowing (or after being informed) that she was going to be working out?! she may be my best friend, but i am not obligated to invite her to everything.

if i knew she was free, i would have happily asked her, no problem there! but she wasn't free as far as i knew, so i chose not to bother her. simple, right? apparently not! it didn't matter what she was doing, apparently. if i was going to go somewhere, i have to ask if she wants to come.

you know, maybe i'm being a shit friend here. maybe i should have invited her. i thought she was busy working out, but even though that was the case i should have asked her anyway, right? RIGHT?

i had a little rant about this to marcus today, and he agreed that he was slightly annoyed by how annie reacted to us going somewhere without her.

don't get me wrong, i love the girl to death. we've been friends since the third grade (we're almost juniors in university now) and she's like a sister to me, but when things like this happen, it really pisses me off.

i'm done for now. max out.
