Hidden Essence

Chapter one

          It was the beginning of fall in Oregon and the cool air was a good sign. It meant that the winter hunt was getting closer. But today Skylar had taken me out for a surprise.

"Sky why did you have to throw a party for me? I hate birthday parties." I said.

"I know but you only turn 18 once." She said.

Today is my 18th birthday and I didn't feel like celebrating. Two years ago today Skylar and I were attacked and bitten by a werewolf. The bite transformed us each into one as well. And even though I didn't want a party I still had to play nice.

"Thank you, I know I'm being bitter towards everyone today." I said.

"I understand why you are, but at least pretend that everything's ok, please?" She asked

"Ok deal, but tonight we have to meet the pack, alpha has something important to tell everyone." I said.

"Wonder what, Mic didn't say anything about it to me." She said.

Mic was Skylar's boyfriend and his dad was the alpha. He took Skylar and me in after we changed and forgot who we were. He told us we were "special" but never said why. When he took us in he tried to restore our memories with little luck.

I told Sky to drop me off at the library so I could do some research. As usual it was empty whenever I was there. But it didn't bother me, I liked being alone here. It gave me space to look up what I wanted, my old life. But as usual nothing, I've tried this search before but always come up empty handed. So I went to the coffee shop down the street to get my usual, a double chocolate chip Frappuccino. When I walked in Mic had already started his shift and had it on the counter when I got to the front of the line.

"Hey I thought you'd be in today." He said.

"And why would you think that?" I asked.

"Skylar gave me a heads up." He said with a smile.

"Of course, well I'll see you tonight; it's gonna be a long one huh." I said.

"Yup, dad has big news, but he won't spill, see ya and don't be late." He said.

"I won't, Mr. Bossy." I said with a smile.

When I turned around to leave I saw a guy standing in the back. The most gorgeous guy I had ever laid eyes one. He had brown surfer like hair, piercing green eyes, very muscular, and perfectly chiseled features. I could not imagine that he could ever be single. As I started in aw I realized he was staring to, right at me. Embarrassed for being caught I walked towards the exit and tried not to look back. And I swear his eyes were on me until I was out of sight.

When I left the coffee shop I ran to the black woods. When I was deep were no one could see me I transformed into a werewolf. My coat is a light brown with blonde streaks. Just like my hair in human form. I took off towards my house on the opposite side of the woods. When I got there I found Skylar I her room and told her what happened.

"Wow he does sound gorgeous. Did you get his name?" she asked.

"No I felt strange when he looked at me; I don't know how to explain it." I replied.

"Are you sure you've never seen him before?" she asked.

"No I know he is new around here. This small town doesn't have anyone who looks like him." I said.

"Well I would say go get him tiger. But in this case I'd say damn go after him before I do." She said with a happy tone.

"Haha very funny." I said.

We talked for a few more hours when we heard a howl. "Well let's go." I said. I changed first, then Skylar her coat was jet black and gleamed in the light. Which I was jealous of. We ran to the black woods and caught alphas scent to the east. He was leading us to the heart of the woods. When we arrived we had to change back. And then once everyone had arrived alpha spoke.

"Everyone I hate to say this but we are moving. Someone has come to our little town and they are not welcome here." He said. I wonder if he meant the guy I had seen today? "We are going to Virginia, well all of us except Mic, Skylar, and Sophie. You three will be going to Montana. Were you will be placed in Goldstone academy. Our pack is being watched and I am not willing to lose my own children because of it." He said. He turned to us and said, "You cannot reveal what you truly are to anyone, only the staff knows what our secret is. This is not a laughing matter so take it serious." He ordered us.

Moving day came and went. Skylar, Mic, and myself were on our plane and headed to a new life, and we were not thrilled.

"This is bullshit. We should be able to stay with our pack." Mic complained, "It's the only family I've ever known."

"I know" I said, "We feel the same, but alpha gave us orders and they must be followed."

Mic looked at me with a sad face and said "Ya I know Sophie, I'm just scared."

It was the first time I had ever heard him say that. For the rest of the flight Mic and Skylar slept and I wondered what our new life held in store for us.
