Hidden Essence

Chapter 8

I walked down to Skylar's floor and knocked on her door. When it opened i saw her roommate Kara. "Uh, hi is Skylar here?" I asked trying to seem calm.

"No i haven't seen her all day." Kara said. Shit well now i have to sneak into the guys dorm and find Mic. I had a bad feeling i wouldn't find him there either. When i got to the guys dorm I had to wait for the lobby man to walk out of sight. When he turned down a hall i dashed in and into the stairwell. Mic's room was D18 so i had to climb to the fourth floor and not get caught in the process. When i got to his floor i went to his hall and knocked softly on his door. When the door opened i was face to face with Bryan. Why hadn't i remembered he was Mic's roommate? 

"Sorry is Mic here?" I asked him.

"Actually no he isn't, now that you mention it i haven't seen him since breakfast. It's strange for him to not be back before curfew." He replied. AS he finished we heard footsteps coming down the hallway. "Quick get in." he said as he pulled me in.

He shut the door and told me to get in the closet. Right as he shut the closet door i heard a knock on his door. "Hello Bryan Lynch?" The guy asked him.

"Ya that's me." Bryan replies.

"Your friend Jack will not be in class for two days please make sure there is no suspicious rumors going around." The guy said to Bryan.

"Fine." He replied with a stern tone.

When he shut the door i came out of hiding. "You have to hide what happened to jack?" I asked him confused.

"Ya it seems so but i dont know why they want me to." He replied. "Wait why did you come looking for Mic?"

"I think Mic or Skylar are up to something. It sounds like Jack may have been attacked by a werewolf the way Katy described it. I didnt do it so that only leaves them." I said to him.

"Come." He said to me as he moved toward the window. "We have to find them now and see what is going on."

"By going out the window?" I asked him.

"Come on wolfy climb on my back i have more than 9 lives." He said smiling at me. I am able to jump down with no problem but i am not missing this chance. When i got on his back i felt a surge of electric sensations course through me. With me on his back he descended the building very fast. "Wow you are fast." i exclaimed.

"If you only knew the truth of your words." He said to me with a grin. 

"Where should we check first." I wondered.

"Well where would you go to hunt if you were allowed to?" He asked me?

"In the woods behind Hunter Hall. Fuck, thats where they are or at least where Skylar was. I saw her earlier today by the lake and Mic in the Hall. that's were they would go to hunt as well. Skylar's emotions were out of wack today, it happens when we haven't shifted in a while. If she didnt change this afternoon she will become very agitated and on edge." I said to him shocked it took me this long to figure out something was wrong with her.

"Let's go and try not to make a lot of sound. I here yall have better hearing then vampires." He says to me.

We started our way towards the tree line next to his dorm and made our way behind Hunter hall. I wanted to shift but i knew if i did Mic would since me instantly. If they knew we were there they would cover their tracks and leave. Bryan's speed was a great thing in case we needed to make a hasty retreat. When we got near the hall we slowed our pace down i felt the need to stop and listen. It was so quiet, it felt strange. Then i heard a voice, "You know we shouldn't have attacked him. Skylar says to who i assume is Mic.

"No but i am glad we did i HATE vampire's. I wish I wish i could kill them all." He said to her.

"Shouldn't we at least tell Sophie?" She asked him.

"NO! Are you crazy? You know what she is. Alpha would kill us if she ever found out." He said frustrated. 

"Ya i know, but i still feel really bad about what happened today and for what i did two years ago. This is all because of me." She said quietly into her hands. What was her fault? Did she blame herself for the attack? She was one of the victims.

"I know you do." He said to her as he embraced her in his arms "But without you setting her up we could never have gotten her. She is so valuable this way. Also knocking out her memory was a great idea, that way she will never remember who she really is." 

OH my god Skylar set me up? I cant believe this, I cant believe my best friend and sister would do this to me. I couldn't take the flood of emotions that were coursing through my head, so i turned and ran further into the forest as fast as i could. Once i was deep enough i shifted and ran even further until my legs gave out. I laid down and didnt move until i felt Bryan next to me. "Come on Soph shift back please." He said to me. I obliged and laid on his chest as i broke out in tears.

"I cant believe this i trusted them. They are my family, how am i supposed to trust them now? Skylar is my sister how can she be this cruel to me? I thought we were closer than that." I sobbed into his chest.

"I know Soph its hard let it all out, ill always be here for you. Just relax you are safe right now." He said into my hair. I cried for a while longer but as i started to calm down i began to fall asleep feeling safe in his warm embrace, safe from those who i once loved, from harms way, and from the night itself.
